It's a scraper. And, in theory, it shouldn't even cause any issues with ReVanced modified Youtube patches except if they need to be updated.

Would need it's own submission, but still have to point out. NSA, if you are indeed watched, will try to track you on every other websites. Using a third-party Wikipedia proxy won't change a thing. Read the actual text on the wikiless README.md, even them just explain that NSA is interested in Wikipedia tracking, and haven't been known to have compromised it so far.

What is that "(pretty flimsy) verification method" you are referring to ? Keyoxide is basically a web-interface (and accompanying tutorials) for PGP/ASP proofs. If you and your colleage know how, it's not for you.
I do think having a "web-PGP" passport page is easier to share, especially for just non-techy people.

PoorPocketsMcNewHold ,

Btw, you can even verify your Lemmy account with it ! https://docs.keyoxide.org/service-providers/lemmy/

Actually, tracking the extremely unique individual with sometime, nonsensical features is making you hyper-easy to track on websites. Maybe it could be useful per browsing sessions, but every 60 seconds in non-sensical, a compatibility nightmare and defeat even the deception method of faking your browser features.

It is as effective as uBlock with the same settings. The ad-deception "auto-clicking" method shouldn't and doesn't have any results to the end-user as it should just confuse the ads companies themselves. Still looking forward to potential documentation on how effective it may or may not be nowadays.

Firefox failing several privacy tests out-of-the-box, according to Brave article ( lemmy.world )

I understand firefox is free software and greatly customisable. I think forks like LibreWolf are fantastic. But I believe the FOSS community needs to be more critical of mozilla. They haven't been the sharpest tool in the drawer for a while......

Just an ad. It even has mistakes, such as GPC support and auto-redirect to HTTPS.

If you believe Google is the most reliable, you can still use it in a private way via :

  • Startpage

Startpage is a private search engine known for serving Google and Bing search results. One of Startpage's unique features is the Anonymous View, which puts forth efforts to standardize user activity to make it more difficult to be uniquely identified. The feature can be useful for hiding some network and browser properties.

SearXNG is an open-source, self-hostable, metasearch engine, aggregating the results of other search engines while not storing any information itself.

There's plenty of public instances too https://searx.space/

Get Google search results, but without any ads, JavaScript, AMP links, cookies, or IP address tracking. Easily deployable in one click as a Docker app, and customizable with a single config file.

Couple of public instances too. Basically SearxNG with ONLY google as a source.

They do, but it's still separated from that business. At worse, it's more an ethical issue of using something that an Ad company own, exactly like using Google with or without proxies services.

I absolutly love open ear bone conduction headphones. Really help getting to your surrounding without any audio leak from your headphones. Too bad that i never found one who didn't broke.
Shockz ones broke the neck security thing and the left ear headphone.
JBL ones can't be recharged anymore onto the right one, as it seems that the earphone doesn't connect fine with the pins in the charging case anymore.
And i even tried a cabled one, hoping this one would break as easily. The cable broke connection and it only work if you hold the cable at a specific angle (unusuable in most usages)

PoorPocketsMcNewHold ,
@PoorPocketsMcNewHold@lemmy.ml avatar

I mean, it could also just be me too.
I forgot the ticket for the shokz.
Bought it "reconditioned" by Amazon for the JBL (and not possible to be repaired by JBL in that case).
I would suggest you one tip from those with a back ring security thing, don't lay on the back with it. Even if you rotate it to the entire back of your neck. I didn't broke it there for those that obviously, but i feel it may have loosened it.

Tell him to make sure to change the Connectivity check domains to GrapheneOS ones. Plenty of people im this thread explained you about those. In theory, ypu could disable it, but the main OS will assume you have no connection, despite actually able to connect, and some apps may break.

PoorPocketsMcNewHold ,
@PoorPocketsMcNewHold@lemmy.ml avatar

It's really on more specific cases. I had it happen with a couple of apps that prevented me even trying to connect to it. I think the entire system should be fine working despite the connectivity check being entirely disabled.

PoorPocketsMcNewHold ,
@PoorPocketsMcNewHold@lemmy.ml avatar

Don't know how where to check to verify that. Hence me still recommending it to double check that.

Because most don't bother with having a billboard for a thing they already paid for.
Even if the question of "Wow, what is that phone ?" could just be answered by the one who bought it, by themselves, instead of the interested to check out the logos and markings.

You can still decide to transfer your account later on, so starting on mastodon.social isn't too bad.
https://guide.toot.as/guide/move-mastodon-server/#1-guide-configuration
Even if i would suggest to change it, as it kind of beat the decentralization aspect to it, i believe ~80℅ users are just on this default instance.
The official website has it's own list of suggested servers per interests and some rules here :
https://joinmastodon.org/servers
You can search via a minimum maximum character limit here : https://mastodon.help/instances/en

By default, Mastodon servers can access all other servers. It's just the admin who can decide to block other instances on a blacklist for all the users on the instance they use. You can also just block yourself instances or users if you want. As long you don't take a political, shitposting, or fascist one which are often blocked on a lot of instances.

Initial Impressions of GrapheneOS

About a week ago, I finally made the decision to flash GrapheneOS on my Pixel 6. I've been thinking about moving to GrapheneOS for months but was afraid to do so because of missing functionalities or app incompatibility that would result in my Pixel 6 becoming unusable. Even though I could just re-flash stock Android should I...

Depending if they rely on the G Play Integrity API or SafetyNet Attestation API https://grapheneos.org/articles/attestation-compatibility-guide
There's a secure way to attest it, but if i understand it, it require the app devs to explicitly add support of grapheneOS via hardware attestation API

Two. One classic one and a specific rectangular neck position pillow. I had used only one pillow for years until i met one of my ex. She had around 7 pillows around her bed and used them aplenty, almost as she never wanted to touch the actual bed surface with her head.

At that, there are ways to hack it of course (Fairly certain it “ruins” some returns/warranty policies, but if you can in those cases, you can easily revert the modified bits if needed)

tl;dr : if you want to try to hack it safely, heads up to : https://remarkable.guide/

If you would like to run a pre-made Debian chroot on it. Saw other distros from other users https://github.com/Eeems-Org/remarkable-debian-chroot

If you would like to use (Not fully replace for stability/recovery concerns) another launcher which is MIT licensed https://github.com/Eeems-Org/oxide

You can install the “vanilla” (minus extra bits) kernel via Toltec https://toltec-dev.org/stable/#section-launchers

Aaaand, if you want to go the full libre way, there's a port of parabola on it sold here http://www.davisr.me/projects/parabola-rm/
Article here https://hackaday.com/2020/09/06/a-free-software-os-for-the-remarkable-e-paper-tablet/

xdg-ninja: A shell script which checks your $HOME for unwanted files and directories. ( github.com )

xdg-ninja is a shell script that checks for unwanted files and directories in the user's home directory and suggests moving them to an appropriate location. The script uses a configuration file that contains rules for identifying unwanted files and directories. The configurations are from the arch wiki page on XDG_BASE_DIR,...

@PoorPocketsMcNewHold@lemmy.ml avatar

If you want something a little easier to install, and especially, allow fixing a couple of those issues safely, and automatically, you can try antidot .

xdg-ninja do already use the antidot rules natively, it's mostly for those who don't want to manually do the safest/easiest of fixes. It should be safe to use alongside xdg-ninja.

Oh, there's a third way.
Like DuckDuckGo & Qwant for example. Just have sponsored ads unrelated to you, or ads related to the specific search only (Without detailing your actual search terms to the one buying the ads) and selected companies in such "store" articles results.
