This was absolutely delightful to read

It has a strawless lid! 10/10 save the turtles

Now that DuckDuckGo is out. Give me your search prompts and I'll answer them as best I can. That includes images (based on what I have saved on my PC). So what is it you wish to know or see?

Edit: Due to popular demand FatTony Search servers are down for the time being. but has gone open source just in time (Yes that's how it works 😡) . You may now get responses from other users. Servers will be back up some time later.

What radicalized you?

Assuming you're an anarchist or otherwise leftist radical, what radicalized your position?

For me it was a combination of seeing the rampart corruption of the Greek state and the sloth and hypocrisy of the KKE in my own family. Then afterwards it was the alienation of my own wage-slavery.

Remember to care for your opsec when answering.

The rise of government and corporate surveillance, the enshittification of the internet, and disillusionment of the grandiose promises of technology got me here.

aldalire ,

Shiiiit. I remember the site, movie-web.app, getting taken down months ago, I was meaning to self-host it. This year is a dark year for open source piracy repos.

Also fuck github for taking down open source project they don’t like.

aldalire ,

What a thicc article but it’s probably the best critique of github in the internet

Medical practitioner influencers who are spreading FUD and pseudo-science, can they be held liable in the USA? Do platforms they're on have no obligation to protect users from such harm?

The person I am talking about is Dr. Palaniappan Manickam aka Dr. Pal, a board-certified gastroenterologist from Sacramento, California, who is also a YouTuber. He's created various videos targeting Indian netizens, most of which are decent, but not without adding his own twist of misinformation, that are considered unscientific...

aldalire ,

I mean, he is asking lemmy 🤷‍♀️

Would you teach your kids how to pirate?

My gf and I have had discussions about teaching morals to kids. In that vein, I asked myself, would I teach piracy to my kids? Yes, it’s technically illegal and carries inherent risks. But so does teenage sex carry the risks of teenage pregnancy, and so we have an obligation to children to teach them how to practice safe sex....

aldalire OP ,

YES. My gf made the point that when our kids are young, when their frontal lobe hasn’t developed yet, we will teach them black and white morality. But that’s only half the truth, since stealing from walmart or a big chain has a different moral flavor than stealing some random person’s things. In a way, I acknowledge that piracy isn’t stealing, and carries with it enormous societal benefits, like the freedom of information, but it’s still illegal, and I don’t want them to be OK doing illegal things.

Maybe the perfect solution is to leave out the inconvenient fact that piracy is illegal when teaching them how to pirate. LOL

aldalire OP ,

Well written!!

Yee idk just a showerthought

I’m amazed at how Windows is able to run with all that extra spyware

Coffee

aldalire ,

just the tip ;)

aldalire ,

Yeah i used to take a fuck ton of edibles right before work.

aldalire ,

Not if you drink 6 shots of espresso to experience that coffee high during work

The defense adds that the similarity between defendant’s social media handle, ‘anarchivist’, and Anna’s Archive is insufficient to support the claims. The same applies to other facts, including her previous occupation as a catalog librarian.

They’re grasping at straws. Viva Anna’s Archive.

Pirate Site FMovies Rivals Major Streaming Platforms in U.S. Web Traffic ( torrentfreak.com )

Every month, many millions of Americans visit pirate streaming site FMovies to bypass paid subscription services and watch movies and TV series for free. The platform is a thorn in the side of the movie industry and a prime exhibit in the quest for local site-blocking measures. According to SimilarWeb's Top 10 chart of U.S....

aldalire ,

Let the free market run its course and let pirate sites compete with streaming services to improve their services.

aldalire ,

Yet it seems they are losing 🤣 Big Stream should stop complaining; it sounds like a skill issue

There should be a way to give directly to the developers

I realize that, after all this time, I have never payed for my all-time favorite games I grew up playing (Fallout 3 & Skyrim). I can pay for it, but I really do not want to pay the money to the Bethesda’s marketing team, CEO, and whoever bullshit middle man who wants a cut of that. I want to give directly to the team that made...

aldalire ,

Creepy! Don’t let them get away with this. I have t-mobile, do they do this?

aldalire ,

How are they gonna site block? If they block through the ISP’s DNS, change your DNS. If they block through IP, well America is turning into China with its great firewall lol. Either way, if they manage to take down piratebay (good luck) we should run our own DHT crawlers like Bitmagnet (https://bitmagnet.io/), or torrent through i2p

This is to be expected, corporations will fight tooth and nail for every penny. We need to fight back to make piracy resilient regardless of the whims of the MPA and the law. Because piracy transcends the law.

aldalire ,

Teach us your ways

aldalire , (edited )

More brazen crackdown of piracy, DNS-level or maybe even IP-level blocking. Complete overhaul of the infrastructure of the internet to make it more "corporate friendly."

We got to remember that piracy, whose backbone is the bittorrent peer-to-peer network, exists because the current infrastructure of the internet allows users to open their ports and allow people from all over the world to request media from them. The internet infrastructure is controlled by the government, who is controlled by corporate overlords. As of right now, the government has (imperfectly) worked hard to retain the neutrality of the internet, but we might be losing this battle folks.

I've always advocated for i2p (https://geti2p.net/en/) because it allows us to be more resilient to the current infrastructure, with the added bonus of not needing a VPN to download stuff. It would be lovely to see you all at tracker2.postman.i2p :-) Yeah, speed might be an issue but it'll get better once there are faster nodes in the network. I2p allows people to participate in the network even when behind a CGNAT and unable to forward their ports, as is the case with a lot of restrictive ISPs.

“Bit of a pain” lol you just link an invidious instance from https://invidio.us

Great app recommendation tho :)

aldalire ,

Session messenger allows you to chat without linking a phone number to your account. It’s what drug dealers use lol.

aldalire ,

I did not know it was run by a VC funded company. Isn’t it open source and audited though? https://simplex.chat/blog/20221108-simplex-chat-v4.2-security-audit-new-website.html

Either way, if one needs to communicate without the use of identifiers like a phone number (afaik signal requires one) I trust Session. SimpleX features cool new tech but let’s wait until it matures

If i paid for every required college textbook I would be broke. I'm already broke now, but that's a different story.

aldalire OP ,

In hindsight, i probably should’ve sticked to the linux-lts kernel and used an older version of nvidia drivers that didn’t have the out-of-order frames issue

aldalire OP ,

A couple of hours, it was only like 470 MB. Although I put in the torrent at night and let my dedicated router do its thing and it’s ready for me during the day. Theoretically you can get away with 1 hop but i don’t really care about speed; the torrent will complete sooner or later. For regular browsing of i2p 3 hops is recommended though. If i’m not paying for it i don’t complain about waiting tbh xD

aldalire OP ,

I’m a hobbyist so i don’t really care about stability. Arch is wonderful because of the wealth of packages. On debian based distros you have to mess around with adding repos, installing via .deb files, and maybe even building some obscure programs from source. But with arch 99% of the programs can be run either through pacman or yay, so there’s more of a unified way to upgrade and maintain packages on my system. So in a way, for my usecase, arch is actually quite stable :). EndeavourOS is also quite good, in my opinion endeavour is to arch as linux mint is to debian

Arch also has the Java implementation of i2p in the AUR. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/i2p.

aldalire OP ,

my catholic upbringing forbids me T_T

aldalire OP ,

Huh. I stand corrected. You only ever do need uBlock. Thanks

So I'm a beekeeper and we have to continuously adapt our tools to change and predators. For the fight against asian hornets, the 3D community has been really helpfull and most of the stuff can be printed at home with a small 3D printer....

aldalire ,

This was fascinating to read. I have no idea, but i hope the piracy community can figure it out and help save bees :3
