I'm Owen Tyme and I'm a novelist.

I prefer to write action-filled science fantasy, though I sometimes write fantasy or science fiction, when the inspiration takes me there. I love grounding what I write in science, even when writing about dragons, witches and wizards.

Though I currently call Liberal, Kansas home, I was born in the California Bay Area. I've come to enjoy the mild climate of Kansas. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Facebook actually tried to censor one of my books! Can you believe that? Has this happened to anyone else?

In my case, it seems to come down to their software being unable to tell the difference between political satire and pushing a fake political candidate.

Their software made the decision! So dumb!

    @chiraag @bookstodon Mostly a matter of fewer middlemen. Draft2Digital is the parent company of Smashwords, so I get to keep more of the profits when my books sell there.

    That's mostly why its my favorite for Ebooks, but they also support open standards and don't use DRM, so you can read my books on any device you like.

    I'm very pleased @rajohns has finished artwork for another of my novels.

    Ashen Blades #2, She Goes to War, should release April 5, 2024.

    In this piece, set in 1972, our brave heroes go to Vietnam on a search and destroy mission, to exterminate their nemesis, Vogerath.

    It draws on the real life experience of a Vietnam War veteran and he tells me I hit the nail on the head with my descriptions of the jungle.

    Its been a few weeks since my little debacle of ordering 35 #author copies, only to realize I'd need a business license to sell them at a profit.

    To get my money back, I decided to sell them at cost, in exchange for passing out my business cards.

    The local fans have surprised me by tipped me super-generously. On top of that, they've taken the business cards, too.

    She initially presents herself to Little Miss Secret and Simmons as a terrified victim of the demon, Otto Vogerath, but she soon has them wrapped around her little finger.

    An AI generated image of Isabel. Early on, Little Miss Secret is given the opportunity to rescue the girl and her grandparents, but that required allowing Vogerath to kill Simmons. In their next encounter, Simmons rescues Isabel's grandparents and she goes with them. Little do they know, but she was willingly working for the demon, because her family was never anything but abusive to her and being kidnapped had released her from torment. Isabel's backstory is tragic, to say the least. She's a naturally powerful and talented witch born to a family of non-witches. Fearful of her magic, her father was incredibly abusive, beating her every time her powers manifested. Ironically, all that did was make her magical outbursts more frequent and intense, because witch magic reacts to emotion. Eventually, she was sent to live with her grandparents, largely because her parents cared more about their public image than their daughter and could no longer hide her magic. Her grandparents were marginally more sympathetic, but they subjected her to repeated Catholic exorcisms, because they were convinced she had a devil inside her. Hearing of her power, Vogerath kidnapped her and her grandparents, because his plans required a witch. Ironically, the demon treated her better than her own family and she emotionally latched onto him, willingly becoming his fiance. Though she seemed to teeter on the edge of redemption, the main characters couldn't save her from her own bad choices.

    Mashu'ra, often times called Masher, is the little demon that lives inside Little Miss Secret's top hat, in my novel She Hunts Demons. He's stuck in the form of an adorable little, black kitten.

    Mashu'ra was her mother's familiar and as a result of that demon-witch's betrayal of demon-kind, he'd also a traitor.

    @bookstodon Inevitably, an indie #author orders a bunch of their #books to sell in person.

    Hopefully the rest of you won't make the mistake I did: blowing a bunch of money on author copies, only to realize, after the fact, I also need a business license from the city and a state seller's license, so I can collect and pay sales tax. Whoops.

    I should be talking with an accountant soon, to rectify that.
