@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee

She/Her, Also @MargotRobbie

Academy Award nominated character actress, clown psychiatrist, Duchess of Bay Ridge, and plastic doll.

She is all of us, yet I’m not her, but sometimes I play her on TV.

So what will be my ending?

Well. There goes my business plan of selling body part flavored candles and butt coffee.

Nothing. Literally nothing. Bad gifts are for annoying close friends, any amount of effort put into a gift for your father would imply that you care what he thinks.

just includes his signature foot shots

To be fair, those foot shots are ... as good as foot shots can be, at least.

Sigh.

It is as Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park: "Life finds a way, that way is plastic, and it's not fantastic."

MargotRobbie ,
@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee avatar

I'd like to think so, most of the time.

But one of the important lesson I learned is that you can't be too nice at work, you have to put your foot down sometimes, otherwise people would just walk all over you and nothing gets done.

I don't like it, but it is what it is.

Fellow lemmings, I, for one, would spend that 15 dollars on a copy of the "Barbie" movie on Blu-ray and digital, because nothing would make me happier.

Shh... I'm astroturfing.

The Wrap article they are referencing: https://archive.is/UmNPh

On the set of “Red One,” Johnson’s pattern of lateness proved more damaging.
Johnson was late an average of seven to eight hours per day and missed several entire days of production, ballooning costs by at least $50 million according to three insiders who insisted on anonymity for fear of being fired.

I can not imagine any other jobs in any industry where this behavior would be acceptable. At the end of the day, people want to get their work done and go home, and wasting the time and work of hundreds of people on set is regularly is unprofessional and irresponsible.

“On set, away from his trailer, if he needs to pee, he doesn’t go to the public bathroom,” one insider who knows the movie star well said. “He pees in a Voss water bottle and his team or a PA has to dispose of it.”

OK that's just gross.

Wouldn't drow Steve Irwin be legendary drow ranger Drizzt Do'urden (with his astral panther Guenhwyvar) before he went to the surface?

Esteemed Australian drow actress Margot Robbie, on the other hand...

Also, great at tearing up the dance floor with woman shaped dolls.

That's what happened to brick and mortar companies any time a hedge fund gets a hold of them, it happened to Sears, it happened to McDonald's, and it's happening to Red Lobster, because in their minds, why make good products that people want to buy when they can make more money by owning land instead?

"We (McDonald's) are not technically in the food business. We are in the real estate business. The only reason we sell fifteen-cent hamburgers is because they are the greatest producer of revenue, from which our tenants can pay us our rent." - Harry J. Sonneborn, former McDonald's CEO

I'm sure there is a perfectly logical explanation for all of this strange behavior from ScarJo.

... The explanation being her movie "Under The Skin" is in fact, a documentary, and Academy Award nominated actress Scarlett Johansson wasn't acting: She is actually an alien creature wearing human skin sent to Earth from Scotland to collect information on human behavior.

MargotRobbie ,

It's common knowledge. There is this other famous one who isn't even trying to hide at this point and calls himself "Zark MuckerBorg" or something.

Like, can you be any more obvious?

The "Ex Machina" sequel is going way too far to believable, they really need to dial back on the surrealist black comedy.

Ok, let me try listing words that ends in "um" that could be (even tangentially) considered food.

  • Plum

  • Rum, again
  • Sea People

I think that's all of them.

I've never actually seen any Chinese EV cars in the States unless you count like, Volvo. (BYDs and MGs are getting quite popular in Australia though), so this tariff looks to be more political posturing than anything else.

BYD electric busses are made right outside Los Angeles, so they wouldn't be subjected to the tariff at all, but that's a whole other can of worms.

It goes to show that being a good actress doesn't mean that you can't also be good at tech, even if you don't like to to brag about it.

MargotRobbie ,
@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee avatar

Companies are not stupid and will rarely ever pay you to do nothing, so if you suddenly find yourself with nothing to do at work and not being handed any new projects, they are probably thinking of letting you go and it's probably time to look for a new job.

MargotRobbie ,
@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee avatar

Being in an industry where everyone is unionized is great, the most important being that whenever there is a work issue you know exactly who to talk to for help.

Having unions should really become the norm for most industries.

The beauty of the federated platform is that you get to choose the version of the person you want to follow: would you rather follow the President Biden on Threads, or the President Biden on Femboy Breeding College? It's a multiple choice question.

Of course, it's probably best if the US government setup their own domain like mastodon.whitehouse.gov if they really cared to have an official account that they have full control over.

MargotRobbie ,
@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee avatar

The main factor is discoverability.

There are no shortage of creative or funny people on Mastodon, however, Mastodon's feed algorithm do not allow them to be discovered unless you happen to stumble upon them by happenstance, whereas it is quite easy to be seen on Lemmy by posting good content: it's rare when I don't get any upvotes or downvotes on a comment here, and good replies are fairly common, so the interaction quality here is generally higher.

"American actress Jaime Presley from North Carolina" is one of my more successful characters, all I had to do was a Southern American accent and people think I'm a completely different person.

Then again, nobody ever expects an actress to be playing the role of another actress.

MargotRobbie ,
@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee avatar

You know this is an Onions article because the real frontrunner for the role of James Bond is going to be, like every other role, esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie.

However, iocaine, like esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress and fugitive from the law Margot Robbie, comes from Australia. As everyone knows, Australia is entirely peopled with criminals. And criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me. So, I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.

Gabe, KiwiFarm started from the forum section of CWC Wiki (in fact, the name KiwiFarms itself is a corruption of "CWC Wiki Forums"), which was hosted on MediaWiki, so "not letting KiwiFarms host their own wiki" is a ship that has long since sailed.

I really fail to see how this has more abuse potential than hosting an independent wiki on MediaWiki, even if the content they host there is... not very nice, to say the least. If anything, there is more control against abuse since they would just be defederated.

I've always imagined that they sound like angry chickens or geese.

What is a gender neutral replacement for man, guys, buddy, etc?

So I've realized that in conversations I'll use traditional terms for men as general terms for all genders, both singularly and for groups. I always mean it well, but I've been thinking that it's not as inclusive to women/trans people....

"Mate" is always a good option, I wish it's used more universally in the States, too.

Gabe, a couple of weeks ago, nutomic was asking for ideas on a name for his federated wiki alternative project, I put forth my suggestion that I thought was better (also because I didn't want it to be named after the bin chicken), but he told me, pretty bluntly in fact, that he is sticking with his original choice.

Am I bummed about it? Of course.

But it would be silly of me if I kept pestering him because he didn't do exactly what I want, because at the end of the day, he doesn't owe me anything.

I can make suggestions to him, but he doesn't have to take them, I'm not his manager, and I can take no as an answer. (He could have let me down a little easier though.)

From reading your blog post, I get the impression that you are venting because 1. the Lemmy devs didn't prioritize on the "improved moderation tools" that you wanted and 2. you are unhappy with the way they are running their own instance, which is kind of the point of decentralization that instances are ran independently from development.

Let me ask you a follow-up question to think about (you don't have to answer me): You are putting weight into Sublinks right now, what's to say that you wouldn't have any disagreement with jgrim about the development priorities of Sublinks?

Lastly, sorry I never did the thing that I promised you to do a few months about moderating a comm on lit cafe, been kind of stressed and irritable recently and can't really find the energy to do much creative writing. Sorry.

The best search I found is by asking questions to real people in forums such as this one. It's way slower than getting an immediate answer for a question, but the signal to noise ratio is higher.

This is the reason why I think Google is prioritizing reddit so much in recent years, because reddit became one of the only places where you can get real people (well, relatively speaking more than most other parts of the Internet) answering all kind of questions.

LAION-5B is notoriously badly labeled that having a few poisoned data, even if it worked as advertised, would literally not matter at all.

Plus, it's not doing anything to existing diffusion models that used LAION-5B, since many artists are under the mistaken impression that the models will constantly scrapes the Internet for new images and train on them automatically, when training a model to learn new information without catastrophic forgetting is almost impossible (hence, workarounds like LoRAs and such).

Again, a reminder that the creator of Nightshade and Glaze, Ben Zhao of UChicago, is literally a code thief who stole GPL code for his closed source product (warning: reddit link) to scam artists who doesn't understand the tech behind ML models.

The 80/20 rule applies to toxic Internet behaviors as well, 20 percent (or less) of the user base is responsible for 80 percent of the toxicity.

It's always the same people being awful here, if you are taking notes, you can quickly identify the worst posters on this platform after a week. People always complain about how they are unfairly banned by reddit moderators, but you have to remember, sometimes the bans are really justified.

I think the ony real (and unpleasant) solution is to moderate very aggressively whenever there is bad behavior (although, I must add, permanent bans should be rare and reserved for extremely bad behaviors)

MargotRobbie ,
@MargotRobbie@lemm.ee avatar

Speak for yourself, I first got on Lemmy to promote a movie, and the next thing I know, I was using Arch (BTW) and moderating an Android community.

I'm still not quite sure how that happened. This place.
