I took a measure from a friend's house in east Tennessee the other day. 40-some percent humidity (really good!), but 88F in the shade, 93F in direct sun, and 116F when standing over blacktop.

As far as I am aware, current fuel economy standards are primarily determined by the size of the wheel base. Some years ago, the EPA went from a reasonably managed chart to a specific formula that gets a little extreme on the ends.

So you end up with craziness like a 95 ranger required to have 60mpg to meet the standard, and a 2024 f35 super mega ultra cab long bed to have like 3mpg to meet standards. (Numbers are made up, but that is the main idea as I understand it)

I'm game.
I'm currently reading "Don't Make Me Think: Revised Edition" by Steve Krug. The book is primarily about website design, but anyone with half a brain could translate the design principles and main ideas into a game development context. I just finished Chapter 10(?) all about designing usability tests and how to get a feel for where the main issues are with your design.
After that, I've got "Design is Storytelling" by Ellen Lupton and "The Animator's Survival Kit" by Richard Williams queued up.

Can someone give a brief overview of Lakka? Will admit that I'm on mobile and am being a bit lazy. Top 2 Google results were fluff pieces. Is it just a launcher? A drop in replacement for retroarch? Emulates a only a specific set of consoles that aren't being cared for by the retro arch community?

It feels like you didn't read the 2nd half of their comment. They do practice. They have a creative side that they want to explore, but they don't enjoy that sort of grind. Instead, they like tinkering and combining tools in interesting ways. I don't think this is a bad thing.

Leo Fender didn't play guitar and always wished that he'd sit down and devoted the time, but never actually enjoyed it. But to say that Leo didn't contribute to the music world, would be insane.

I was really active in that sub at the time. Fox or CNN or something contacted the moderators about an interview. The mods discussed it and decided to decline. IIRC, they later made a post about not accepting interviews until they felt they were more ready to present clear goals, and maybe pull someone from the community to be a "official" spokesperson.

Then a mod went rogue and did the now infamous Fox interview. That was bad, but recoverable. It was further shenanigans by the moderators in the immediate aftermath that caused the schism into work_reform. Before my exodus from reddit, I followed that community closely, but never got as involved. At the time, I remember thinking that the mods felt more reasonable than in antiwork, but that quickly changed too. Eventually they effectively became mirror subs.

Then RIF got shut down and someone told me about this lemmy federation where I could post about all the gay space communism and fringe technology I wanted. I think that I am happier now overall.

Almost certainly - but that is what I agreed to when I bought the TV.

Like I said in the post, I'd much prefer dumb TVs, but they I can't really find them anymore. Best I can do is buy a smart TV that'd won't let you do anything (including selecting inputs) until you connect it to the internet, agree to their horrible anti-consumer licensing agreement. Only then to open up a different smart device product that will still steal my data and force me to give up my legal right to a class action? The current system is scam.

Do you have any recommendations for dumb TVs?

Community isolation is still a big problem. Federated services like lemmy will never reach critical mass until owners start limited communities to force more user interaction, and cross posting becomes more streamlined. My favorite proposal as a solution is to allow mods of a community to subscribe to another community, and allows it to synchronize posts and comments.

Vivaldi has been my browser of choice for years as well. Fantastic product in my experience. I've sadly forced myself to start using firefox and librewolf in an attempt support alternatives to chromium based browsers. Firefox and co. are fine, but I'm still reaching for features and options from vivaldi that just don't exist in firefox without a maze of incompatible and poorly maintained plugins.

As someone else who dabbles in cybersecurity - hard disagree. If developers and alleged IT professionals got their shit together, most data breaches wouldn't be a significant problem. Looking at the OWASP top ten, every single item on that list can be boiled down to either 1) negligence, or 2) industry professionals negotiating with terrorist business leaders who prioritize profits over user safety.
Proper engineers have their standards, laws, and ethical principles written in blood. They are much less willing to bend safety requirements compared to the typical jr. developer who sees no problem storing unsalted passwords with an md5 hash.

Very well written and I agree that the 3rd solution is by far the best of the three top contenders presented. Communities should be able to follow communities and have them automatically cross-post with one another to promote interaction from multiple communities on multiple instances.

Not sci-fi, but Mister B Gone by Clive Barker was really good. The book is a conversation with a demon who is telling you his life story. It is the story of how he came to be trapped in the book you are reading.

I thought the book was super funny and surreal. I saw reviews after finishing that it is considered some of his worst work. That might be true, but the worst 24 carat bar of gold is still a 24 carat bar of gold. Well worth the read imo.
