Because they care about the west supporting them. That’s it, that’s literally the entire reason. That and they don’t have the capability without western support. (To some extent yes, but not really in the ‘precision-guided-munitions’ department)

DaDragon ,

So it’s more of a case of ‘we will follow orders’ then. Somehow not surprising…

These Teens Adopted an Orphaned Oil Well. Their Goal: Shut It Down. Students, nonprofit groups and others are fund-raising to cap highly polluting oil and gas wells abandoned by industry. ( www.nytimes.com )

It's a serious policy failure that this is happening; the people paying to cap wells should be the ones who became wealthy by extracting the oil, not a bunch of random teenagers.

DaDragon ,

Even better, scratch the ‘cap other wells with the profits’ part, and just use the profits to buy as many oil wells as you can

DaDragon ,

Won’t change anything, though. Nobody likes being the chicken, lest of all large countries who put themselves first.

DaDragon ,

Thing is, what exactly do you call a group of people who break into an airport and shut down operations, or form roadblocks that also shut down operations? The are a group committing ‘serious’ crimes, is this not literally the exact scenario these laws are written to address?

I’ve always maintained that actual climate protests that have a useful result will be quite illegal, and probably quite violent. That’s just the way it is. Either the protesters give up, or the government gives up, and the government has a lot of violence it can use before that point.

DaDragon ,

How would funding work, then? If everything I do is available to the public with no protections on my end, then I can’t guarantee that I (the inventor) will ever be able to extract any value from some thing that I put a lot of time and effort into developing. Considering we live in a capitalist society, there needs to be a way to reimburse inventors.

As the person above me pointed out, how do you prevent a large company on capitalising on ideas that a small inventor has?

DaDragon ,

There’s nothing technically stopping you from building an android smartphone just the way you like. In fact, there’s extreme modding folks that do things like already. What we really lack is a future-proofed connector standard for component connectivity that just works.

DaDragon ,

And best of all, they’re not even satanists. They just call themselves an edgy name

DaDragon ,

Sounds like Musk’s taking a page out of the Russian/Ukrainian oligarch book: there’s no point in paying bills ahead of time, if you can make even more money by ignoring the bill for a couple of months

DaDragon ,

The guy you replied to is probably saying her labia majora is too ‘big’

DaDragon ,

Fish: live in water

Beavers: also live in water

checks out

DaDragon ,

My uninformed opinion would probably be that someone somewhere realised that air assault is no longer viable, in light of a lack of Russian air superiority. And in general, the VDV has always been more of a ‘somewhat decently trained conscript force’, which only has an overall better image because they undergo slightly more training than their ‘normal’ conscripted brethren

DaDragon ,

What? do you really think that that Netanyahu is some sort of saint with his response to the October 7 attacks? It was a political choice to let things happen to the point they did.

And if you’re on Hamas’ side in all of this, do you really think that nobody targeted by them was innocent?

DaDragon ,

Which empire?

In short, are are you trying to say that Hamas killed no innocents on October 7?

What's the deal with Isreal vs. Palestine side taking in the West?

I feel like I've been kind of in the loop for most of the headlines regarding this confrontation. Yet somehow I can't find it within myself to actually care about either side. It seems like both are lead by genocidal parties, hell bent on indoctrinating their populace into hating the other side. Yet at the same time people are...

DaDragon ,

Except that you can’t deny that Arab countries have consistently, and for a long time, been both directly invested in the destruction of Israel, and in ensuring that Palestinians believe they too have a chance of ‘winning’.

The only objective difference between the ‘win’ condition of Palestine, the complete eradication of Israel, and the inverse desire by Israel to completely remove Palestine is that Israel actually possesses the funding and has a sufficient excuse to see it through.

Unless you keep that in mind, I see no possibility of solving the conflict in a lasting way.

DaDragon ,

Or Saudi Arabia. They have publicly stated that their AD systems shared information with Israel. Saudi Arabia really isn’t religious enough to care about Israel that much, at least not compared to more important goals that they can reach otherwise. Of course, they do fund various anti Israel groups, but not in any particularly heavy way that can be traced to them

DaDragon ,

And I wouldn’t say you’re wrong for choosing to do so. My comment is primarily a response to the idea that Palestine is somehow less focused on the idea of getting rid of Israel than Israel is on getting rid of them.
In fact, the simple fact that Israel was plopped into Palestine, and now claims the entire region on theological grounds is enough to show why both sides are ready to be so genocidal about it.

DaDragon ,

Isn’t Kai Shek one of the most important founders of Taiwan? Sure, he had his issues (for example, ordering the deaths of a couple folks now and again), but you cannot have modern Taiwan without him. Just like how Mao is an integral part of the shape the modern PRC took.

DaDragon ,

As a person with no diagnosis of any type, I too feel confused by people only having ‘a few’ interests and hobbies. If my time were not so finite, and I had the financial means, I’d be pursuing a lot of random things

DaDragon ,

Maybe reach out to the smaller artists, then? I’m sure most of them aren’t opposed to sending you a file if you pay

DaDragon ,

I’ll say that it’s a logical position: the GOP loves any and all innocent lives (that vote for them). If you’re a good white Christian (to some extent you can be a good black too), you’re innocent and therefore allowed to live. If you’re a criminal, an ex soldier with PTSD, LGBT, a political dissident, poor, of the wrong religion, of the wrong race, of the wrong citizenship, your right to free and unmolested life is revoked.
Babies are good because they are not old enough to be anything but a possible future GOP voter.

DaDragon ,

Less a necessarily bad person, and more an ideologically influenced one, I’d wager. Sure, there’s probably a couple psychopaths mixed in too

DaDragon ,

Enjoy the fact that there’s more and more money in your bank account? I personally find solace in that fact.

DaDragon ,

That’s what humans do, though. Maybe not probability directly, but we all know that some words should be put in a certain order. We still operate within standard norms that apply to aparte group of people. LLM’s just go about it in a different way, but they achieve the same general result. If I’m drawing a human, that means there’s a ‘hand’ here, and a ‘head’ there. ‘Head’ is a weird combination of pixels that mostly look like this, ‘hand’ looks kinda like that. All depends on how the model is structured, but tell me that’s not very similar to a simplified version of how humans operate.

DaDragon ,

And that’s the reason why LLM generated content isn’t considered creative.

I do believe that the person using the device has a right to copyright the unique method they used to generate the content, but the content itself isn’t anything worth protecting.

DaDragon ,

It doesn’t actually need 130gb of updates, that’s the fun part. They probably only made a couple gigabytes of changes at most, just their shitty folder/packing structure requires downloading every single ‘unit’ of the game again because they made minor changes
