As Chris Geidner reports, Washington Post knew three years ago about Alito's wife flying the insurrectionist flag of white Christian nationalism, and buried the story.

"As Alito provided an essential fifth vote hollowing out the Fourteenth Amendment’s bar to insurrectionists’ holding office, the Post sat silent."

@wdlindsy the media is complicit. They’re owned. It’s capitalism. Their primary mandate is not to inform. Let’s stop pretending otherwise and find a solution

Every day the Supreme Court fails to make a decision in Trump’s immunity case is effectively a decision in his favor.

They're acting like an arm of Trump's campaign by letting him run out the clock on his prosecution.

"Bottom line is that Trump didn’t know much and doesn’t even know how to learn more, and you can’t be good at the job without knowing much. That, even more than his disregard for the rule of law, made him a very dangerous president for four years, and given that there’s no evidence he’s learned anything it would make him a very dangerous president again."

@wdlindsy I hear you. I agree. But can anyone explain wtf we’re continuing to support a genocidal government AND sending them more weapons because they’d used up the ones we sent already doing genocide? Let’s see Biden explain that one without resorting to blatant lies. Then maybe people will stop with the equivalencies you’re worried about.

Colby ,
@Colby@mastodon.world avatar

@wdlindsy I don’t disagree. But I’m terrified Biden’s enthusiastic support for Netanyahu will dampen turnout and thwart his reelection

For those following the Trump election fraud trial.

Just wondering about the New York Times' journalistic ethics having Maggie Haberman covering the Trump election fraud trial, when she is also identified several times during the trial as a go to reporter for pushing out stories Team Trump want to favorably spin.

@mastodonmigration I dumped my NYT subscription in 2016 when their bias was unmistakably apparent. Nothing has changed. It’s what they are.

For those losing their heads over today's actions by Judge Cannon, take a deep breath. This was always going to happen. The writing has been on the wall since Judge Cannon was drawn for the case. Getting all worked up about it is only going to make you crazy and desperate. The way we will rid ourselves of this menace is at the polls in November.

For a sober discussion on this topic this exchange today between @Teri_Kanefield and @JonChevreau is highly recommended:

@mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield @JonChevreau alternative view: Terri told us repeatedly the justice system works, be patient. Now she’s tired of explaining the system is slow. Maybe instead she should acknowledge those of us who called for mass protests demanding immediate jail for the ringleader AFTER WE WATCHED HIM LAUNCH AN INSURRECTION were right.

Last month was by far the warmest April that humans have ever experienced — our 11th consecutive record-breaking month. April 2024 was 1.58°C above the pre-industrial baseline.

🚨 We are in a climate emergency. 🚨

And yet, all we get from our “leaders” is more Business As Usual.

Colby ,
@Colby@mastodon.world avatar

@breadandcircuses
It’s even worse than that: every single month since last May has been the warmest ever for that month. Incredible.

When your gay friends are stripped of their marriages, tell them you didn’t vote because you wanted to make a statement about Gaza.

Colby ,
@Colby@mastodon.world avatar

@StillIRise1963 sure, agree 100. Now, not Nov, is the time for statements. Loud ones. Of course we’ll vote Biden, but he should hear our dissent loudly now, today, everyday until he stops enabling genocide

Lawrence O’Donnell:

“We had a monster in the presidency not because of Donald , but because of the people who voted for Donald Trump and because of the people who worked for Donald Trump’s campaign to get him there. You get monsters like Donald Trump thanks to people like Hope Hicks.”

@GottaLaff I’m surprised some here express sympathy. Hicks was his confidant throughout the campaign and presidency, and she remains loyal. Indefensible

America's 813 billionaires now collectively hold a record $5.8 trillion.

That’s more than the wealth of the entire bottom half of the US, roughly 65 million households.

It's not radical to tax the rich. It's radical to allow this level of wealth concentration to continue.

Colby ,
@Colby@mastodon.world avatar

@rbreich when us minions get sufficiently angry about that imbalance, and the climate catastrophe it’s fed, perhaps we’ll finally do something to correct it. I sure hope we get there soon
