    @LeviKornelsen Imagine that. I'm not sure which of the many initiative systems I prefer, but individual initiative ain't it. Takes too much time to sort out.

    What does Daggerheart even do? Players go first? I can't be bothered to look into it.

    Slowly finding it less and less fun to engage with very specific prognostications of "Exactly how Wizards is going to fuck up it's shit".

    Because, like, one of the many, many theories will be very possibly be right, sure. But we don't NEED to predict specifics? We know the underlying cycle now, because it's everywhere in business, making things shit.

    The daily and dismal news of the great enshittening has ruined the fun of trying to predict any particular for me.

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @LeviKornelsen At this point in capitalism's progression, "owned by a public corp" means it will inevitably turn to shit. Private corp becomes variable but tends towards shit as well.

    Ugh. Just saw someone blatantly violating my copyright over on Ye Merrye Drive Thru, to the tune of an entire book.

    I strongly suspect it's an innocent mistake, something devoid of malice or sneaky intent ... but ugh. I mostly just hate having to email the DTRPG people; they've never been easy to work with on anything, and previous copyright-violation issues have been minor nightmares.

    I've always been a mite puzzled by people who think Jesus was entirely made-up. Like, if you were gonna make up a religious dude to start up a church, in that time and place, that... Would not be the dude? Especially the bit about hanging out with sex workers.

    Now, if you want to go for "Dude was a standard cult leader with some really great fuckin' lines (and more his followers probably tacked on later), passed off his horny shit as sacred work, got WAY mythologized after death", I mean.

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @LeviKornelsen Seems pretty darn likely that there was some dude who became the character behind the myths of Jesus. Scholarship backs that much up at least.

    @SJohnRoss Specific games rarely hit my limit, like I don't mesh with D&D 5e but I don't particularly care if folks are hashtagging it in otherwise general TTRPG posts. I don't like FATE but some of the ideas I do like, just not the execution. Etc.

    But since one of these games is also attached to a very annoying performative fandom, it definitely gets singled out.

    @LeviKornelsen It could be a serviceable revenge flick? Hard to really tell from a trailer. I generally assume that any remake will be crap until proven otherwise, but honestly this doesn't look nearly as bad as some other remake trailers I've seen.

    I don't believe that the natural price of TTRPGs is free or any rubbish like that, but I do know that trying to do it professionally as a main source of income is direly stressful and less fun for most. Even most of those who succeed are often eating pride as much, if not more, than joy.

    ...I have accepted that the D&D playstyle series will continue, and am at peace.

    It is now time to begin writing about Playing D&D Correctly, and also how we Play D&D Correctly in other games, because apparently I would like to annoy people.

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @LeviKornelsen The treatise on how to Play D&D Correctly must also precede your entry into paid DMing. People shouldn't settle for mere amateur DMs who don't understand the Correct procedures.

    CatDad , to random

    Fellow AD&D 1e players, past or present: Gygax is pretty strident about playing by the rules as written, but pretty much no one really does that.

    What rules are/were the first to go or get modified in your game?

    (and anyone saying something like "the entire game" gets a block, I don't care about your non-constructive and frankly boring opinion)

    CatDad OP ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @Tim_Eagon Initiative rules in many of the early D&D games have been kinda fiddly. Going back to older games I have come to prefer group initiative now, instead of individual initiative, and rolling every round adds a bit of chaos and uncertainty to combat that I like.

    It's interesting, at least to me, to read the contrasting attitudes towards crowdfunding in the space (trends negative) versus the space (trends positive).

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @Tim_Eagon Interesting, I haven't noticed that. I've backed more TTRPGs than boardgames though. What negative attitudes do folks have for boardgame crowdfunding?

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @Tim_Eagon Ok. I've had the same things happen with TTRPG crowdfunding too. But like I say I've only funded a few boardgames so my experience isn't very broad.

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @MerricB There is a lot more attachment to characters in today's play styles, I think. When folks bring a 3 page backstory and expect to be near superheroes in 5e, for example, they really don't want to have serious long term consequences that don't fit their preconceived notion of how their character progresses.

    The Current Discourse, TL;DR:

    Justin Alexander: Writes article titled 'Jaquaying the dungeon', quite a ways back.

    Jennell Jaquays, months after that, several times: "Please spell my name correctly when crediting me for my style. It should be Jaquaysing, not Jacquaying."

    Justin Alexander, months later: "I think I'll just rename the style after myself, and call it Xandering"

    The internet: Notices

    Notices HARDER.

    CatDad ,
    @CatDad@mas.to avatar

    @LeviKornelsen Now I'm just waiting for the predictable response to this sort of thing: lamenting attacks from the "woke mob" and going full rightwing chud. I could be pleasantly surprised, but I'm far too cynical for that sort of wishful thinking. I've seen this scenario before.

    CatDad ,
