This morning, I read a new thread (yes, I checked the date) where people were earnestly and nerdily debating how the Enterprise would fare against an Imperial Star Destroyer (not well was the consensus opinion btw).

@Tim_Eagon @mikertrice I don't see it this way. For me, if I'm going to spend the time with something that builds a world and has characters I care about, then I want those stories (books, shows, movies, etc.) to matter, always

I don't want to spend my time being invested in something that is going to be retconned to suit a new generation of fans OR the whims of a new storyteller. Don't change what is established, and expect us to just roll with it. Invested time matters and should be honored.

I watched the third episode of The Acolyte last night, and I see today that its online reception has been very contentious. I thought it had it's share of problems in the pacing and acting department (with the exception of the girl who played Leia in Kenobi, Star Wars has not had a good track record with child actors), but the writing was deliberately vague and ambiguous to preserve the season's larger mystery, so I'll reserve judgement for now to see how it plays out.

@Tim_Eagon I'm so tired of the Great Mystery that so many shows rely on. I'm giving Acolyte one more epsiode. For me, the last episode moved things exactly zero. It didn't tell us anything that wasn't already said, and I kept waiting for the twist or truth revelation that was going to justify the flashback, and it never happened.

Why they called a show Acolyte and didn't make it about Palpatine's rise to power will forever be the Great Mystery to me.

@Tim_Eagon @mikertrice That's a lot of time spent in the past with just one episode. If they need to go back to it, that's even more time. I dunno, it just seems like they're so focused on some kind of "shocking moment" that they're sacrificing good storytelling. I don't want to wonder what I'm watching. I want to watch in wonder, if that makes sense.

My son seems to love all of the horror movie characters, from Jason and Freddy Kruger to Ghostface and Pennywise.

He's never seen a horror movie. Everything he knows is from kids st school.

I want to show him one, but I'm not sure which one would be a first experience. Any suggestions?

Difficulty: nothing scary in a bedroom, otherwise I'd do Poltergeist. Also, no sex scenes. He's under 10.

Valuable lesson just learned earlier this morning. Phones won't always warn you of tornadoes, but the city sirens sure did.

We just got back from sitting in the basement while a nasty storm line w/rotation passed close to us. I barely heard the siren over the wind/rain, but I did hear it.

Things developed really fast!

Hope everyone's OK to the east of us, that line had some punch!

@thoughtpunks @Tim_Eagon I'd be okay with that and would enjoy the variety of TTRPG games being discussed.

I use TTRPG about D&D all the time. I think of the TTRPG hashtag as an umbrella that covers the entire spectrum of appropriate games, with more specific tags for individual games or topics.

I have decided that one of my Temple PC's was taught by Zagyg under the name of Noobenkaynen the Uncontained, aka Trapper Keeper. His original interest was to send him to take adventurers into his old castle. The group ended up embroiled in the resurgence of the Temple of Elemental Evil, which Zagyg finds hilarious. So, now he is going to work to annoy Iuz and have a hand in finding out the Temple's secrets. He is going to speak like a German mad scientist. There will be chaos.

Veggie garden is starting to go in. I broke up the dirt last couple of weeks - today I spread compost/fertilizer and starting to turn over the beds. It's labor intensive, but also gets down 12" to ensure good roots, as opposed to machine tilling which impacts a hard pan at 7" or so...
