I had this same question, I learned "meat" chickens are called broiler chickens, they were bred to put on weight rapidly. Egg laying chickens are separate breed and grow slower or won't grow to the size of a broiler. The industry is limited by containment footage, so they wouldn't use a male egg laying chick where they could house a broiler.

CaptDust ,

Opposite problem for me, we have 95f/35c all week. I'm used to average 75/24 around this time. It's got me worried I need to set up shades or something.

CaptDust ,

Ah yes, democrats are widely known for their support of christofascism. Always out there forcing their religious beliefs on society, claiming America as a birthright theocracy.

Who was the US Republican die-hard neo-lib Senator

Paul Ryan, he should never be allowed to live it down. After Tom Morello put Ryan on blast, Ryan clarified he likes the sound but hates the lyrics lmao...

CaptDust ,

This attitude is why we still have people idolizing the Confederacy.

I use rsync with a systemd timer. When I first installed the backup drive it took a while to build the file system, but now every Monday it runs, finds the difference between source and target drive, and pulls just the changes down for backup. It's pretty quick, doesn't do any compression or anything like that.

CaptDust ,

First picture is giving me young I-No vibes, before she got corrupted.

CaptDust ,

You might have them confused with Chiquita

CaptDust ,

She's actually the only reason I was going to see it, if Taylor is out - I'm out too. Bad move Disney.

The Curious Case Of The Underselling Arena Tours ( www.stereogum.com )

“Who can afford to go to multiple shows?” says the anonymous tour manager. “Two tickets to a show, you’re talking probably about $200 with fees and everything. You go to a meal around the show, you’re talking at least $100 or $200 for a nice dinner. Then you got parking and babysitters, then you add the VIP stuff to...

CaptDust ,

It seems silly to believe every artist with a label can go on an arena tour. In my city arena shows used to be reserved for the biggest of the big. Now no touring bands will play smaller venues and simultaneously perplexed why fans won't show up at $200 a seat. Meanwhile the medium venues are either hosting the same local bands repeatedly, or closing.

What a conundrum.

CaptDust ,

I've read this article 3 times now trying to understand why the headline is written like it is. They had a system glitch that double charged instant transfers and are working on correcting the problem. Inconvenient, sure, but calling it a nightmare?? Why specifically "black customers"?

I guess well done editor, your sensationalized headline got me to stick around the page for an extra couple minutes while I tried to understand the context, and all it cost was the journalist integrity of one of America's historic newspapers.

CaptDust ,

It's a PS1, the redesign was PSOne. PSX was a PS2+DVR.

CaptDust ,

But PS1 and PSX are both retail product names for different systems, I don't see calling the Wii "Revolution"..

CaptDust ,

I'm not going to disagree they're overpriced, especially the bigger collector sets, but they are built to insanely perfect tolerances and that's never cheap. Use any generic blocks and it's easy to see Lego manufacturing is on another level. In addition I've built countless sets and despite thousands of tiny pieces I've only had one piece missing, once. And customer support sent out that piece immediately, no questions asked.

I believe much of the cost comes from the standards they hold themselves to.

CaptDust ,

Just chiming in to say a lot of communities I participate in are hosted on ml, I'd be pretty bummed losing access to those. For that reason I'm against wholesale defederarion. I do think the communities need to explicitly diversify away from the instance though, ml admins seem demonstrably untrustworthy.

CaptDust ,

I'm not going to hate the company for trying, but if you're a building admin using these instead of Oasis or Elkay fill stations you're a huge fucking asshole.

CaptDust ,

I mean people can develop and sell whatever product they want at the price they want. Usually I'd recommend voting with your wallet, but presumably this would be up to facility management to install these for a captive audience, who wouldn't have much choice in the matter.

"Your water subscription has increased by $1, thanks for being our customer. Reminder, creation of public fountains and bottle sharing activities are punishable by law!"

You sigh and delete the email. They send out the same message every month.

CaptDust OP ,

I think it's legally "allegedly" until proven in court. Even if there's video evidence of someone commiting a crime, police will say they are "investigating allegations" as the suspect is still innocent.

CaptDust ,

McDonald’s said the average price of all menu items has risen 40% over the last five years, to account for a average increase in the cost of labor, paper and food. That is higher than overall consumer prices, which have increased 21% since December 2019

Hey it's all good, not actually doubled! The 2% cost of living adjustments should cover it. /s

CaptDust ,

With food costs changing as they have, you likely got more value from the pizza party. That slice of pepperoni is worth at least $8.

CaptDust ,

He's begged the oil industry to come up with a $1b donation for his "campaign", this is the reach around if they make it happen.

CaptDust ,

He's got cubicle walls, must be doing well for himself.

CaptDust ,

I'll just be honest, from my perspective on lemmy everything outside of porn, linux and shitposts is lacking. Interaction outside the top of hot is a wasteland of non-existence, questions go undiscovered, comments are never read. We could all be more generous with upvotes to improve visibility.

For me sfw art communities, sports, and life protips would all be nice to see grow. I miss the old photoshopbattles too, but I think that's just fallen out of style in general.

CaptDust ,

Woody Harrelson, but it better be about Rampart.

CaptDust ,

My 10 year old car has 4 wheels, a good engine, comfy seats and bluetooth. Heating and cooling are fantastic.
It does not have sensors that shit themselves if you get too close to a road line, does not need to go to the dealership for an authorized computer reset after the oil is changed, and it doesn't have any "eco" turbos waiting for their seals to leak.

What more can I ask from a vehicle? Maybe I'm getting old and cranky, but everything they've added to new cars is useless crap to distract drivers and eventually break.

CaptDust ,

I hate to bear the bad news, but as long as the model is too large to fit entirely in VRAM getting 5 t/s on a 8x7b is going to be difficult. You can throw another 16gb RAM in the system which could help with caching and context length, but since the model is still having to juggle data in and out of VRAM the speeds will remain low.

I wouldn't upgrade the CPU personally, focus on adding beefier GPU. And it's probably not worth adding the 970 to the mix, the 4GB isn't providing much room and will likely slow down the 6800 XT more.

CaptDust ,

Good call out on not mixing CUDA and ROCm, I wasn't aware of this

CaptDust ,

I can independently confirm. My cats definitely know their names, and their ears will perk up when called. But most of the time they can't be bothered to turn their heads towards the sound, there's no chance they'll get up to engage unless they hear a treat bag crinkle with it lol

CaptDust ,

Sorry, autopilot disengages just before impact so Tesla can report it wasn't active or involved during the collision.

CaptDust ,

Yeah it's drivers fault regardless if it's active or whatever. Expectation is to remain alert and in control at all times

CaptDust ,

Well I didn't notice the stilettos, but now I'm even more confused by that stance she's taken. I don't want to question hotdog anatomy but who walks around like that?? (Crabs- crabs do.)

CaptDust ,

“My brain worm was not weak and small, it was so big that Timothee fucking Chalamet could have ridden it across my brain,” said an enraged Kennedy Jr.

LMFAO

CaptDust , (edited )

Well capitalism is like getting a blow job, it's something that makes you feel good. Communism is more like sucking dick, like something no one wants to do. Yeah, pretty sure I got this figured out.

Edit - this is political memes and we're all very serious

CaptDust ,

Yeah, I'm bored and posting dumb shit. it's a nonsensical analogy. If no one suckin dick, no one's getting blow jobs.

CaptDust ,

I love this idea. Very publically shameful and the physical activity would beat him down in a way no jail cell could. Hope the judge considers this, seems like a proper punishment.

CaptDust ,

Of all the things to regret or be concerned about children, mortality is the big one for her? Strange.

CaptDust ,

Obviously, why wouldn't he? This is potentially the dumbest argument ever heard in a court room and we're all supposed to sit here and entertain its plausibility. What a joke.

CaptDust ,

Why did they replace the barrel with a chest? Come on guys, this isn't hard. The barrel is rum, the rum is the treasure. Smh

CaptDust ,

Nixon, Reagan, Bush1, Bush2, Trump. The GOP pattern of criminality, ineptitude, and ignorance is clear as ever.

CaptDust ,

Photo of the Swift Asylum, it's actually horrible! Just 3,600 sqft on 11 acres?? who could live like that!
