Found a house wren doing an insect(?) delivery to what looks like another adult? The in-hole bird looks older than a nestling. Do the males of this species bring females snacks during nesting? Is it nesting material?

This bird's probably wondering if I'm ever gonna go leave. I came back the next day with some good daytime light.

A small bird sits on a thin branch of a toyon. Its beak open whlie it sings.
The bird faces the nesting hole to deliver some food to its nestlings. A rippling grey-black-brown pattern follows the outer wing feathers and down the tail features.

A wren in Wytham Woods near Oxford.

I frequently hear them singing when I walk in the woods but can rarely spot them. This one was kind enough to perch nice and low and in a patch of sunshine.

Happy !

The same bird, now looking out of its cave-like nest, only the head is visible. The colors of the bird blend in really well with the colors of its nest, made of dried leaves and sticks.

Zwei Zaunkönige hopsen und flattern durch eine Benjeshecke. Einer schmettert dem anderen lauten Gesang entgegen. Kurze Aufregung, dann beide gleichzeitig weg.
Ich hab keine Ahnung, ob das nun ein Balzversuch oder ein Revierkampf war.
