Color photograph of one of the exterior facades of the University of Iowa School of Music (Voxman Building). The facade's surface is paneled and made up of vertical and diagonal elements. The vertical lines of each panels are made up of slender grey, brown-grey, brown, and black panels that change colors each time they cross a diagonal element. Each panel is framed by three-dimensional, vertical support columns as well as the three-dimensional diagonal elements. Both the vertical and diagonal framing are the dark grey color. The photo was take at an oblique angle. In reality, the diagonal elements are actually horizontal.

    The feathers of this young duck were so pretty to me--a chorus of delicate patterns that, were I a suit maker or costume designer, would inspire the silk lining of some rich jacket that would open on these golds and coppers in their surprising houndstooth (duckstooth?) & swoops & arcs of hatching.

While the photo is not as sharp this close to, nevertheless the wonderfully varied and detailed patterns that meet together on the side of the duck are obvious and lovely, all rendered in the beautiful browns and coppers of the mallard. Each pattern has a hand-drawn quality to it: The breast is a series of striped scallops like little sailboats of chocolate and white, the pointed sails pointing upward as the scallops fall down the length of eir breast; to the right, eir flank is decorated in a series of closing parentheses that ripple from left to right in dustier brown and grey; above the flank, we see the beginning of eir wing in golden stripes split with copper in elongated vials that glow warmly on the eir back; eir cheek, nestled atop eir breast, bill burrowed invisibly into eir wings, is a quiet pointillism of grey.

Everything in the photo is a slightly glowy, coppery brown--the lightly rippled satin of the water, the reeds and rushes standing on their reflections in the background, and the duck emself, a variety of delicate patterns in arcs and swoops on eir wings, eir breast, and even the closed eye of eir face. E looks like a small monument to some duck in folklore or history that the other ducks have set up here in the reservoir like a fountain figure it library lion (but, of course, a duck)

    A photo of a brick wall that has been painted ocean blue. The paint is beginning to chip off in some places and never seems to have covered the spaces between the bricks well. This leaves an off-white outline around almost every brick except for the ones that have a little moss growing or grime existing between bricks instead.

    Ephemeral ice texture from back in March. I'm used to finding ice with crystalline patterns but this looks so much like veins and skin texture.

    I think this is called chert. Such a crazy sedimentary rock formation!

    A wall of sedimentary rock, with jagged-edged layers one on top of each other in a chaotic terraced pattern.The rock is mostly gray, but features reddish and greenish areas and some almost blue tones in a broadly mottled pattern. Some parts are brighter green from moss and plants, and there are some spiderwebs in certain areas of it. It looks kind of strange and broken because of the jagged edges.

    The little leaf continues to fascinate me today, so I play around with it a bit more...

    A leaf that is almost gone, but of which the outer line and the delicate veins of its inner net are still well preserved, lies on a white chair from which the colour is already peeling. The perspective gives the impression that it is hanging on a wall. The leaf and the areas of chipped paint are somewhat in the shape of a large fish and two smaller fish swimming beneath it.

    Lichens growing over a black and white rock surface (possibly granite?).

    The orange one is, I think, Teloschistes fasciculatus. The black one could be a Pseudephebe (?), and the grey one... maybe Placopsis?... I'm probably wrong on all of those.

The largest of these are a powdery bright orange species, and a white-grey one with lobes and raised walnut-like areas. There are also a couple of small patches that look like black moss, but which I think are another type of lichen

    📸 So yesterday, there was a severe air quality warning and a severe heat warning, and then, at dusk, a line of severe thunderstorms moved through.

    I looked out and everything had that bizarre pre-storm yellowish look to it, so I walked outside and saw this when I looked up.

    Quite dramatic, horizontal orientation, photo of the sky at dusk the clouds in the center are a golden orange color however some of the orange is blocked by various earing, dark clouds. Additionally vibrant, blue sky pokes through on the lower half of the frame along with sparse puffy white clouds.
