This was all GW Bush'es "Thousand Points of Light" agenda, that private philanthropy would be spurred by deceased govt assistance.

It's all been a grift. Eat the Rich.

I don’t want to rely on the benevolent, unaccountable billionaire. They can never be voted out of office. Imagine if Bill Gates, arguably spending these last decades much of his $$ to improve the world had been Trump or Musk?

Plus, research shows a disproportionate number of corporate leaders are sociopaths or psychopaths. People with psychopathy crave power and dominant positions. I don’t want them making decisions to change the world.

If you live in the European Union, I would ask, as a personal favour, that you consider signing this petition for a tax on great wealth. It is reasonable; it would have major impact if put into place; it is very feasible (no revision of the Treaties needed). It is the brainchild of French economist Thomas Piketty, a leading scholar of inequality. https://eci.ec.europa.eu/038/public/#/screen/home

Report : More for Them, Less for US: Corporations That Pay Their Executives More Than Uncle Sam
    https://americansfortaxfairness.org/less-us-corporations-pay-executives-uncle-sam/
35 major U.S. corporations — including famous names like Ford, Netflix and Tesla — paid less in federal income taxes between 2018 and 2022 than they paid their top five executives. All 35 were cumulatively profitable over that five-year span.

@jeffowski the federal government doesn’t need taxes to pay for that. They can just do it.

Just a reminder that blaming any consumer price increases on "carbon tax" means that you are acknowledging price gouging by corporations who pass all business expenses onto their customers while continuing to pad their own profits. That's not called government greed, it's called corporate greed.

Scientist Rebellion is at Maastricht Aachen airport (MAA) today to demand that it bans private jets. This superfluous consumption by a small global elite is a major cause of pollution and the climate and ecological crisis.

Overconsumption of the rich is the main cause of pollution, overheating and extreme weather. The poor pay the price for this decadence. Private jets are the epitome of this injustice and must be banned.

Today in Labor History March 7, 1932: Over 3,000 people, led by the United Auto Workers, marched on the main Ford plant in Dearborn, Michigan. Workers on the Ford Hunger March were demanding that laid off colleagues be rehired. They also demanded a slow-down of the assembly lines and an end to the evictions of unemployed workers from their homes. Marchers carried banners saying "Give Us Work," "We Want Bread Not Crumbs," and "Tax the Rich and Feed the Poor." During the protests, police opened fire with machine guns, killing 4 and injuring 60. A fifth worker died later from his wounds. The Unemployed Council (part of the Communist Party) also supported the march.
