We are on our way to block the road again with @extinctionrebellionnl.

Our demand: the Dutch government must stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry with taxpayers' money. Today we repeat this demand to the new Dutch cabinet led by prime minister Dick Schoof.

We are now in The Hague town hall to read our Volkskrant op-ed and hand our letter to the municipality. Peaceful protest is a basic right. A government that prevents this with violence, such as on Saturday on the A12, is failing. Today we are marching through The Hague where we will again block the A12 road with @extinctionrebellionnl to demand a stop to Dutch government subsidies of the fossil fuel industry with taxpayers money.

Scientists in symbolic lab coats are marching with concerned young people including @gretathunberg

We also march alongside teachers, healthcare workers, social workers, civil servants and many more people from all walks of life. 1/2

Along with @extinctionrebellionnl we are blocking the Shell Pernis plant in Rotterdam for the North Sea Fossil Free campaign. Along with simultaneous protests in the UK, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany against new fossil extraction in the North Sea.

North Sea Fossil Free calls internationally for a halt to all new fossil projects in the North Sea. They also demand that the old infrastructure that is no longer used is cleaned up as quickly as possible. (1/2)

Scientist Rebellion is at Maastricht Aachen airport (MAA) today to demand that it bans private jets. This superfluous consumption by a small global elite is a major cause of pollution and the climate and ecological crisis.

Overconsumption of the rich is the main cause of pollution, overheating and extreme weather. The poor pay the price for this decadence. Private jets are the epitome of this injustice and must be banned.

Fossil fuels lead to CO2 emissions, which lead to global warming. Our government gives large profitable companies fossil fuel tax breaks of €39.7-46.4 billion per year-€2500 per citizen! Fossil subsidies fuel dangerous global warming, which we can’t afford.

We join @extinctionrebellionnl on the between ministry of EZK & parliament to demand ending fossil subsidies. 35 scientists got arrested. Previous letters, protests & petitions did not end this dangerous policy. We urge the government to speak the truth & stop financing fossil fuels.

Earth has already warmed by 1.2ºC, caused by the extremely high CO2 emissions of the past decades. We see dramatic suffering for humans & for other species across the world. Every 0.1ºC further warming makes this worse. We can stop this. Every delay in action is irresponsible.

Science is clear: to limit global warming to 1.5ºC, we must stop drilling for new fossil fuels. We must abolish fossil subsidies. Our government committed to this in 2015 via the UN (SDG 12.c), and promised to stop these subsidies in 2009, 2021 & 2023. Yet no steps were taken.
