#Berlin / Berlin Stops Blocking Artists From Criticizing #Israel After Massive Boycott
[…] The rule—adapted from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (#IHRA) and known as the “IHRA clause”—forced all cultural organizations receiving public funding to accept the organization’s controversial definition of #antisemitism, which explicitly forbids any speech that “questions Israel’s right to exist” or criticizes the country’s occupation of Palestinian land. Advocates noted that the ruling conflated criticism of the Israeli occupation with antisemitism, allowing Israel to justify its ongoing war against #Gaza, which has killed more than 25,000 Palestinians since the #Hamas attack on October 7th, which killed 1,139 Israelis, according to revised death tolls.
Interesting and by interesting I mean, see you at the ICJ.
'Developing story from the Netherlands. A group of government officials and diplomats has submitted evidence to The Hague that Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte asked the country's legal affairs ministry: "What can we say to make it look like Israel is not committing war crimes?"'
"As Bibi faces criminal indictments on three fronts, he’s desperately using any state mechanisms available to shut out information that reveals the depth of his crimes, as he prosecutes greater war crimes to stoke the state of emergency and remain in power."
"To the American, war, when abetted by Americans, must always be draped in some sort of impenetrable fog. Bullets fly from unknown places, infections and starvation spread just because, and suffering is abstract and inevitable—up until an ally might be blamed. The only motives to be given prime time coverage are America’s: always moral, always undertaken to protect the international rules-based order."
This is not Gaza, he is not Hamas, he is not a terrorist, his only crime is that he opposes the illegal occupation of Israel in his home.
He is no Rodney King, this video is one of the millions of similar videos, long before October 7 and long after it and all the future, as long as the infection of occupation is not treated and ended like the end of the apartheid system in south Africa.

#USA / Before Invoking Antisemitism, We Need To Define It
Derek J. Penslar, a William Lee Frost Professor of Jewish History and the director of the #Harvard Center for Jewish Studies, is the co-chair of Harvard’s new task force on #antisemitism. Another task force was established to combat #islamophobia.
In an opinion essay from December last year Penslar wrote:
“Conflating criticism of Israel with antisemitism magnifies divisions within our Harvard community and stymies a common struggle against hatred.”
Penslar presented the three competing definitions of antisemitism from different Jewish groups - #IHRA, Jerusalem Declaration, and Nexus Document, which agree on core aspects but differ on Israel criticism.
While IHRA sees some criticism of Israel as antisemitic, Jerusalem Declaration and Nexus Document allow more criticism of Israel policies/actions without deeming it antisemitic.
Penslar supports the Jerusalem Declaration and Nexus Document as more conducive to discussions happening at Harvard. Both documents say criticizing Israel policies is not inherently antisemitic, but have examples of criticism that is antisemitic.
