This is your regular reminder that
NONBINARY PEOPLE/CREATURES EXIST.
See this flag? ---> :nonbinary:
Yep, it's for nonbinary people/creatures. It has a lot of meaning for us. But you know what else is ours?
On THIS flag ---> 🏳️⚧️
nonbinary people/creatures are represented by the white stripe. That one is ours, too. We can fit under the trans umbrella. We don't have to fit a binary.
We are here, we are valid. Use our flags and represent us in your stories.
If you're curious about us, ask us! We are mysterious entities, but we don't have to be!!
The real threat to gender-diverse children is the politicization of care issues like puberty blockers and detransition
Under the pretext of protecting children, Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, has said he is opposed to the use of puberty blockers for gender-diverse children.
BRILLIANT, MOTIVATED, AND FIERCELY fabulous, activist Eddie Ndopu tells the story of his journeys: South Africa to Canada to Oxford to his role on the world’s most glittering stages speaking out for the rights of people with disabilities. B PLUS
"Greece is expected to legalize same-sex weddings this week, in a vote due to be held the day after Valentine’s Day. Not everyone is feeling the love, however, and the Greek Orthodox church has become an outspoken and powerful opponent of the changes."
"Even though the bill isn’t forcing the priests to marry gay people and has nothing to do with the church, it is church officials who have been the loudest opponents, with bishops appearing on television programs making outdated and false accusations, calling homosexuality a mental illness and suggesting that gay men and women are sick and only the church can heal them."
"Indicative of the hostility towards the measure, the far-right Spartans party leader, Vassilis Stigas, told parliament that the bill was tantamount to 'opening the window' to paedophiles as he urged ND MPs to vote against it, while the bishop of Piraeus claimed that homosexuality was a 'mortal sin' and a cause of cancer. 'Google it and you will see,' he told stunned interviewers on Skai TV."
Head on over to https://www.twitch.tv/chilliteracy to hear Lucy read this evening's short story, 'Prelude' by Katherine Mansfield! We've been really enjoying Mansfield's work and expect this to be another excellent story. See you there! @bookstodon
Nothing says, "I'm a secure, brave, heterosexual male" like purposely destroying a rainbow crosswalk in the middle of the night. This schmuck put himself on the line for a felony because he just had to express his destructive, bigoted wrath when nobody was looking. #DylanBrewer, 19, of Clearwater, Florida, is a fucking coward, and his name will forever be synonymous with irrational hate. Good luck with your future, dickhead!
I know this is out of context, but it's clear enough, and I'm beyond sickened. #LGBTQ#GOPbigots
Via Aaron Rupar:
"He, she, whatever it is, it" -- Rep. Troy Nehls is using the Houston church shooting to push some of the grossest #transphobia I've heard on cable news
GOP Rep. Mike Collins: "We need to put out there that all these transgender people need to have a living will so they if they die, we'll know what pronoun to call them."
In Utah, an athlete needed police protection after a Republican school board member falsely accused her of being transgender.
"Sports bans will hurt cisgender women" is just one of the many, many predictions the trans community made at the beginning of this moral panic.
Today on Assigned, I declared national We Told You So Day. From violence to attacks on cis women and gays and lesbians, the predictions have been chillingly accurate. #trans#LGBTQ#news
#Murfreesboro, #Tennessee "must pay $500,000 as part of a settlement with the [ACLU] and other groups over an ordinance designed to ban #drag performances from taking place on public property." The city had falsely claimed that a 2022 Pride parade resulted in "sexualization of kids," then denied subsequent permits to #LGBTQ parades and events.
Murfreesboro has agreed to pay $500K of its taxpayers' money, repeal the bigoted ordinance, and approve future parade permits.
Amanda DeWitts Wren Martin Ruins it All. A fab (anti) Valentine's read! Wren is ace and, as class president, needs to help organize the Valentine's Day dance (which they loathe). A nice story about being ace and falling in love.
"It should also not be a surprise – considering the links between the LGBTQ+ movement and feminism today – that if you were a supporter of the homosexual cause, you were also likely to support rights for women. So: the burgeoning gay rights movement in Britain was connected to wider late-Victorian movements for reform, part of a larger impulse to find new and better ways of living in the modern world."
What is the one thing your younger self would not believe about life in the year 2024?
For me, it would be that he’d have figured out why people and social stuff is hard, and that it wasn’t the thing he thought it was then. Runner up is he’d be married and have a kid.
This evening, Lucy's returning to the works of Katherine Mansfield! If you would kindly bring yourselves over to https://www.twitch.tv/chilliteracy and make yourselves comfortable, we promise you a lovely, cosy evening! @bookstodon
I am SO GLAD we refocused on Sword Senpai! These changes actually have me excited to work on it. Now, if only I could work on it and pack and clean at the same time...
Survey of over 90,000 trans people shows vast improvement in life satisfaction after transition.
The National Center for Transgender Equality released early insights from its 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey, the largest survey of trans people in U.S. history.
I love that Ireland's female patron saint, Brigid, is receiving new attention because Ireland itself has changed so much — and cultural shifts cast holy people in new lights, so that we see new facets of their contribution to us.
As Irish poet Laura Murphy says, “Brigid is about signalling a new era based on her principles of equality, unity, truth, compassion and love.”
“Many of these have coincided with the waning influence of the Catholic church, from allowing same-sex marriage in 2015 to the legalisation of abortion in 2018, a campaign in which Brigid, who helped women terminate their unwanted pregnancies, was frequently cited."
