After re-watching Game of Thrones, I decided to have some fun with AI. Bing made something... I edited it with Pixlr and added text with Add Text. This is my first try/result.

In the near future a mass of people are going to die in a city from the heat, and the headlines will say that "it wouldn't have been so bad except the power went out"

Heat is going to take down power systems. The power systems that could protect us from an event, will be harmed by the event.

618 people in Canada, in the mountains, in the forest, died of a heat event, on the floors of their homes, on their beds. No flames. Just a days heat.
The power stayed on, it would have been worse

Oh, President Biden is giving away free heat pumps for your home.

https://www.energy.gov/articles/biden-harris-administration-opens-applications-states-and-territories-implement-85-billion

However, no search engine I used gave an any real answer to
"How to apply for free heat pump"

Aritcles about the law, explanation of the plan, but search engines appear to be dirtying up the answer.

This is the SearxNG instance I currently use:

https://search.inetol.net

Low latency, has the options I need, and I appreciate the defaults of leaving the query in the URL and in the page title.

SearXNG is a meta-search engine. You can use it as a front-end to one or multiple search engines such as DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing, Qwant, ..., it only depends on what your instance makes available.

So, is down, and everyone just (re-)discovered that their own alternate, artisanal search tool is just Bing under the hood.

Here is a page where someone ( Seirdy ) has collected a bunch of search services that use their own indices (not just Google, Bing or Yandex reskinned).

I'm already using a few, but several are new to me.

"A global outage is affecting a variety of Microsoft services, including its Bing search engine and Copilot AI tool.

Users turned to social media on Thursday to complain about the outage, which is also impacting third parties, including the search engine DuckDuckGo, which relies on Microsoft’s infrastructure."

Duck Duck Go is down because Bing is down.

(Also, you saw the recent AI stuff, right?)

Folks, I know… I use Duck Duck Go also but remember they have venture capital. Enjoy it while it lasts (or let’s fund and build alternatives differently that aren’t temporary businesses with profit motives and exits but commons-owned institutions working for the common good).

My friends and I are starting a set in the Outer Rim, during the transition from Republic to Empire.

Meet Thane: A former slave liberated by clone troopers, who joined the fight only to grow disillusioned when the Empire reinstated slavery. He turned on his units only to be permantly burned in the process. Now he wanders the Outer Rim as a bounty hunter, and occasional rebel fighter.

Report: Microsoft’s AI infusion hasn’t helped Bing take share from Google

Bing's US and worldwide market share is about the same as it has been for years.

Yeah, Google's search quality has tanked since they relied on more AI and favor ad results.

If wants to take the throne from , they should do what Google did from the very start----extremely simple interface with no stupidly cluttered interface, and relevant search results. Keep ads to the side if they must, but not IN the search results.
