I just saw with @bosquebill, so here is my entry.

I’ve come across this a number of times but never got a usable picture. It likes to stalk a pond in a small wood where I go for walks. Yesterday at sunset, I was surprised to see it, never seen it at this party of the day before. I had a moderate tele, changed lenses, and gave it a shot. The light was bad, and I had to use a high ISO, but I got a picture now!

We have a rare visitor in the Comox Valley. This is a male Northern Bobwhite, Colinus virginianus.

It might be hard to make out what we're posting for this week's - but this was done with no flash, no electric light, and in the middle of a dark night. That eerie green light is the back end of a glow-worm, shining across some blades of grass.

Are any bioluminescent creatures in your or settings? Whilst bioluminescence seems almost science fictional, humans have lived alongside strange insect glows for longer than historical memory.

How does the Cactus Wren build its nest? Very, very carefully...

A photo from my morning walk today. I went to photograph these (and other cacti) in bloom, and this friendly Cactus Wren appeared right in front of my camera. Nice coincidence for and not a photo I would've even hoped to be able to make — I actually had to zoom out! 😁

This week's Exilian is a female red-crested pochard!

How often in your or do you include animals that are less common or well known to your audience? These can have a range of effects: establishing a character's knowledge of the natural world in recognising them, a change in location demarcated by different creatures present, or just making the world feel more deep and diverse than a world where all ducks are just ducks.

- An American mink (Neovison vison) looking for a tasty meal on the shore of Vancouver Island. It stops briefly when it spotted me.

That time when a dominant female bear came close and checked me out. I was on my knees already to get eye-level shots of the coastal black bears, from a safe distance and with a telephoto lens. My camera was on the tripod. Best thing to do was to bow and look down at my feet to show her that I was not a threat.

A Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) calls at a passing swallow while perched on a Blackberry branch. Photographed at Iona Beach Regional Park in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

I've another swallow image in my post here, along with other birds from that park:

The Hooded Orioles have returned — I heard their loud chatter in the neighborhood this morning. Here's a photo of a male (seems like he's aware of his good looks, isn't he?😅)

Rock Wren
Marble Canyon, AZ
[tall photo]

I'm able to continue my sequence of photos from my campsite in northern Arizona by taking advantage of the tag.

This little bird was hopping along the cliff face of Badger Canyon and stopped long enough for me to get this photo.
