The is not only altering our , but our brains. New studies indicate the negative neurological effects of , , and the stress of surviving extreme events.

These factors shape our wetware even before we're born. Kids in utero during Hurricane Sandy showed a 20- to 60-fold risk increase for some conditions.

Social equality suffers, too. Temperatures above 32C reduce cognitive performance and heighten aggression. Researchers estimate this could account for disparities in school achievement gaps and violent crime rates.

Think it's "all in your head"? Researchers investigating links between urban air pollution and neurodegeneration found physical markers of Alzheimer’s disease in the brains of 99.5% of participants, aged 11 months to 40 years.

A cold front came through last night. The wild weather missed us, for which we are thankful.

Today it's 20F, and it feels like 6 because of the winds.

An uncommon February in North Texas. The all-time high for this day here is 90F. The forecast for today is 87F. February is normally our coldest, even iciest month. The flowering of pear trees in town is about a month early, IIRC.

Preliminary estimate says last night's tornado (at least one of them) was an EF3. One of my coworkers is surveying the damage down there.

EDIT: The NWS revised it to a high end EF2.
