WOTC are advertising for a Principal AI Engineer - duties include "Explore new uses of AI for all levels of game development"

They're asking for experience with "asset creation, and generative content"

Amongst my many reservations about this is the fact that they've made a number of cultural and racial missteps in the last few years. AIs have a terrible track record of exacerbating bias.

I think the one thing we have all learned from #WotC this year is that corporate controlled creativity, even when done by good people, isn't nearly as good as what people come up without that company overlord telling them what to do.

Let's continue to support the smaller folks of the #ttrpg industry. Those are the ones who still care about the hobby beyond just dollars.

Ugh, since I started watching more YouTubers last week, my recommendations are now filled with video after video with clickbaity titles and thumbnails talking about the Cynthia Williams resignation. One is over 2 hours long! There's no way anyone has more information than what Rascal News reported in like three tweets, and they certainly have no insight into the Hasbro C-Suite. I almost regret subscribing to more TTRPG YouTubers. The discourse sucks y'all.

WotC's statement on the use of AI in their products (from December 2023) vs Hasbro's statement on the use of AI in their products (from March 2024).

What a difference 3 months can make.

Let's also not forget that, despite a significant increase in revenue, Hasbro laid off 20% of their workforce (1'100 people) in late December of 2023.

For all their talk of responsibility and fairness, they don't seem to be clinging to those ideals too hard.

WotC's statement on AI: For 50 years, D&D has been built on the innovation, ingenuity, and hard work of talented people who sculpt a beautiful, creative game. That isn't changing. Our internal guidelines remain the same with regards to artificial intelligence tools: We require artists, writers, and creatives contributing to the D&D TTRPG to refrain from using Al generative tools to create final D&D products. We work with some of the most talented artists and creatives in the world, and we believe those people are what makes D&D great.

A Hasbro press release titled "Our perspective on generative AI", reading: Hasbro’s rich legacy of games and toys was built through the collaborative efforts of a diverse community of creators and storytellers and we maintain persistent focus on empowering these teams to craft exceptional experiences for fans.     The writing is on the wall.

    Hasbro has all but admitted that A.I. generated content will be coming to MtG and D&D.

    It's not a question of IF it's a question of WHEN.

    Especially as they flat out say they are already training their own internal engine on the 'wealth' of material (art and text) that they already own.
