While both noted their countries’ commitment to #Israel’s #security, Gallant emphasized what he said was the urgent need to destroy #Hamas, secure the release of Israeli #hostages & “ensure Israel’s military edge & capabilities.”
#LloydAustin focused on the dire consequences the #war has had for #Palestinian#civilians. “The number of civilian casualties is far too high, & the amount of #HumanitarianAid is far too low,” he said. The safety of #Palestinians in #Rafah, where >1 million people are holed up, was a “top priority,” he added.
Never forget that it took 30,000 #Palestinians dying in #Gaza over 6 months for this to happen. International politics is far too disconnected from the material lives of everyday people.

Some are saying it’s a distraction to appease #voters while Biden continues to provide arms and cover. Some, that the intention is to actually benefit the #zionists by providing a place to evacuate #palestinians. Some go so far as to claim it’s intended as the terminus of the #Israeli#RiverToTheSea dream.

@wdlindsy Netanyahu should be in prison busting up rocks. No food, water,medicine etc. The Palestinian people are living in filthy inhumane conditions. His strategy to eradicate Hamas is not working. @Nonilex@DaPickle And part of Biden's strategy is to maintain enough favor with Israel in general to be able to influence them towards a two-state solution despite their current government hating the idea. His initial response was dead wrong, and he's still too pro-Israel, but he's learning (and I suspect offended).
