Colorado Blue Columbine Painterly by Debra Martz
This slender beauty of delicate flowers with bright colors is the state flower of Colorado. It and a lovely variety of flowers in the garden at the Cuchara Yacht Club were attracting butterflies, bees, and moths. Digital brushes and filters were used for a painterly finish to my photo.

    I’ve not seen any so far this spring but they’ve obviously been here. Spotted these two monarch yesterday on the one milkweed in my front , a survivor that has regrown after dying back to the soil following our big winter freeze. Hope these make it to adulthood, the ones I saw last year disappeared before pupating.

    My ground phlox (possibly Phlox subulata/moss phlox) has achieved blanket status.

    I'm a sucker for mass blooms. A friend of mine has large swaths of this phlox & was kind enough to borrow me a cup 2 yrs ago. A cup that was 1.5' x 2' chunk that I then plopped down in a 1.5' x 2' space.

    Easy peasy phlox carpet squee-sy.

    Photograph of a mass bloom of purple ground phlox (moss phlox seems likely). This variety of phlox is low to the ground and slowly "creeps" along the ground. The plant has moss-like foliage. The flowers have five, heart-shaped, pale purple feathers that radiate from a narrow central cone. Each petal has two, small, purple dots where the bloom meets the central cone. Two orange anthers are visible in the center of the cone while the other reproductive organs are interior to the cone.

    Hawaiian poppy, watercolor. This prickly little plant is also known as Pua Kala, meaning thorny flower. The fragile petals typically last only one day.

    Single Hawaiian Poppy against an abstract garden background, watercolor painting. High atop dry, leeward mountain slopes and arid coastal plains on the islands of Hawaii grows a prickly little plant, the Pua Kala - literally meaning “thorny flower,” but more commonly known as Hawaiian Poppy. The head of the flower features snowy white petals and multiple yellow stamens as well as a deep purple stigma at the center. The fragile petals typically only last one day during the Pua Kala’s blooming period.

    Collage - "Thoughts Of You 3"

    Tall rectangle with rough, bright green background that has concentric circles to add texture and spotlight effect with the faint shape of a large, six-petaled flower impression. Some of this green stuff is "torn" for a decollage feel: revealing scraps of various bright-colored 1940s floral fabric at corners and edges of background. At two opposite corners, 1960s dolls in bright colored dresses look toward the other corners. Each is balanced on a large 1960s nickel which is tails-up. At center: a larger heads-up copy of the same nickel. Text: Plant something different. Can't you afford to?"
