I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever worked in IT. Especially, executives and managers.
Also, to anyone who has parents that are incompetent mosters (Incompemonsters TM) and need YOU to fix THEIR problems 😂
I am pretty sure many Mastodon users are familiar with the work of Cory Doctorow - @pluralistic - so it's kinda like preaching to the converted. Anyway, THE INTRRNET CON is a great book (halfway through it), I hope to finish it by Sunday to publish a review of it for people in my native #slovakia#slovakrepublic to bring some attention to this very important topic.
I can say, I haven't found a single point of disagreement in it (at least, yet). Recommended! #bookrecommendation#corydoctorow
This is to appease some well-meaning but overtly Christian and out-of-touch family members. Something for a 12yo who reads well above his age, along the lines of inspiration/motivation for teens to be good humans and members of society
Rather than have them pushing propaganda on my son I’d like to find a worthwhile read they will feel addresses the insufficient Christian influence in his life
I am not Christian, but I don’t mind giving him “Christian” books as long as the message doesn’t focus on human guilt/sin, the worthlessness of humanity without a saviour, or racial/gender/orientation/etc. intolerance.
It’s just that everything they are trying to free him focuses on the “traditional Christian” concept of what it means to grow into being a man. It’s all rubbish I can’t tolerate.
@philip_cardella@kaleb It's a wonderful book. I'd recommend it to any good people looking for how to continue to be good people in this grinding world.
Can someone recommend environmental and ecological #economics literature from the moral perspective that the only relevant metric is #WildAnimalWelfare What economic policies would have the best impact in reducing wild animal suffering?
@jlou@bookstodon@economics I’ve got to run to the store, but let me know if you need me to do the same search on Academia.
I searched for “environmental economics and wild animal welfare.” (Certified in tech support and learned how to do keyword searches as part of my training.) Super interesting topic, I have to say! Currently getting a 3rd Masters in Global Technology and Development.
@kimlockhartga@NickEast@reading@bookstodon@bookbubble@books good to know. There There was really absorbing. I felt as if I got to know a whole world that I had never heard of before. Indigenous Oakland. People in the book seemed very real.
It's been a long time since I have picked up a book that was not work related. I'm thinking it's time to start the first book of the year. Most years I would already have read probably 10 books so far. Any good recommendations that are recent releases?
Nice to see Ronald McGillvray's "Tales From The Parkland" hanging in there on Amazon's "Hot New Releases" chart a week after launch. I'd say that's a well-deserved success and would highly encourage any speculative-fiction fans out there to give it a read.
My latest science fiction read is my first from Gareth L. Powell. It won't be my last. See my Goodreads review for details but sci-fi fans should definitely give this one a try!
