At first it is hard to believe that most people don't pay much attention to politics. Most people don't know what "project 24" is or the significance of the phrase "obstructing an official procedure" (maybe you are such a person) --but, when I think about how tense, nervous and occasionally helpless political news makes me feel I totally get it. Also, a lot of this stuff is boring and kind of technical.
@futurebird I think that’s supported by what we already know: that state and local parties are for the most part insular and like the way things are, they like their invitations to the national conferences and titles etc. so it gets hard for them to get other people involved because it would mean a give and take of that power and prestige and, critically, some acquiescence on policy and/or messaging. What dem county chair wants to post a message of support for a Gaza ceasefire on the Facebook ?
Do any of you have an ambient music making app on your phone that you enjoy? I'm thinking something like a simple synthesizer simulator that lets you make ethereal soundscapes to relax to or to save to use as background music?
I have a vague memory of an app like this years ago...
Peter D. Evan tells the Japanese origin of the modern d20. Neal Baker pores over 50 years of Gen Con event data. Sabina Belc and Joseph Dumit demonstrate how games can serve civic education.
Imagine if there were a whole genre of news stories where Fox news hosts hang around the bicycle repair shops in Brooklyn, and the handball courts in South Bronx to try to better understand what "Real Americans" think and why they have rejected the Republican party so completely.
Then they would breathlessly talk about quinceañera moms as a voter cohort.
There needs to be actual content rules. TIL worked best when the mods actually adhered to those content rules. Otherwise you just have people posting all kinds of nonsense. Quality is better than quantity
"Business leaders, investors, and mayors have teamed up on a new initiative designed to encourage governments to produce ambitious #climate plans ahead of a crucial UN deadline early next year.
The #Mission2025 initiative, launched this morning, is urging governments to align the next raft of national climate action plans with the Paris Agreement's more stretching goal of limiting global warming to 1.5C."
#MorningAll & #TZAG G’day Squirrel Fans, hope I find you bright eyed & bushy tailed!
Monday has dawned super bright & warm, like an excited teenager off to the seaside!
Not much on today - I was going to tackle the shed today but it’s going to be stonking hot , I may leave it till the end of the week when it’s slightly cooler.
Anyone accusing me of procrastination will have to wait their turn!
