US lawmakers quiz Elon Musk's SpaceX amid claims that its technology is being used by Russian forces in Ukraine ( www.bbc.com )

Mr Musk recently denied that any terminals - which are key to Ukraine's army operations - were sold to Russia.

But in a letter seen by the BBC, two senior Democrats said they were "concerned" by the recent allegations.

In the letter sent to SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell on Wednesday, Reps Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin wrote that it was "alarming" that Russian troops might have obtained Starlink technology in violation of US sanctions.

"We are concerned that you may not have appropriate guardrails and policies in place to ensure your technology is neither acquired directly or indirectly, nor used illegally by Russia," the men, who serve on the US House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, wrote.

Didn't Musk refuse to enable Starlink in Crimea? I'll be the first to admit I don't know how Starlink works, but wouldn't he have the same level of control over connections from terminals bought/used by Russia?

Fades ,

He sure did, mid mission too. He’s a Putin asset plain and simple.

The New York Times just ran an article about him misusing money donated to his charity for his own benefit.

Are we ready to talk about how borderless Internet technology is used by our rivals against us, or are we still too addicted to money and power to question such profitable endeavours?

partial_accumen ,

I'm interested in your definition of "borderless internet technology". I have a guess what you mean, but I'm not going to assume and put words in your mouth. I'm interested in your message. Can you give your definition of it?

As things stand right now, we're providing every intelligence agency, mafia and terrorist organization in the world with a direct access line to every single member of our society, and I just kind of feel that's a pretty foolish thing to do, especially when we're pushing our children online as well.

With all the government money he has sucked up that traitorous motherfucker should be in prison right behind Trump

mindlight ,

Whether the terminals are purchased in Russia or not it's irrelevant.

What matters is where they are used and when.

Elon can choose to say that he has no safeguards regarding Starlink usage by enemies of USA or he can actively admit that his company has exact knowledge of Russia using what terminals, where and when.

The former would most likely end in authorities ducking up his business. The latter would keep the authorities att bay but would prove him being a Putin bootlicker.
