You have to like fatty foods to get into poutine. And what @technicolourpenguin said is pretty much true. As a general rule, you don't know what real poutine is until you've tried it in Quebec.
For real Chinese food, head to China Town in Vancouver. Just beware... DTES (Downtown Eastside... Vancouver's answer to Skid Row) is near China Town.
