I misjudged Can't Stop and 7 Wonders Architects. Two simple games that I thought were luck-fests. It turns out there's plenty of skill in both - at least to play to a competent level. They will never challenge Go or Chess, but that's not their aim. Playing them both in real-time at BGA brought that home.

@iain Can't Stop was a favorite with my kids and nephews; they didn't even realize they were learning math! It's also a fun game to play over drinks at a bar!
@iain I may have played it as a kid in the 80s, but as an adult, my first introduction to it was at a Beer & Boardgames night - I believe my friend who had the copy obtained his from a thrift shop. I spent years trying to find my own copy via thrifting, but no dice. I ended up getting a reprint off of Amazon, which has held up nicely and isn't as expensive as the current version.
