@lowqualityfacts Chinese food in Australia used to be a unique thing that probably occurred nowhere else (except maybe New Zealand) in the world. What we used to call Chinese food is now largely only found in outback towns where they still love it and occasionally revolts grey nomads. Chinese cuisine in the cities has moved up market and is still not representative of the food served in China.

@lowqualityfacts the famous Turkish shawarma was invented in Germany. It's a well known fact.

You should have added "by a New Zealand immigrant".
Now that would have triggered a few Aussies!

None those "Chinese Food" dishes are of Chinese origin. Most of them are prison cuisine perfected in the torture chambers of the fiendish Vietnamese.

@lowqualityfacts back in the early 80s, friend has his birthday party at a Chinese restaurant - something pretty fancy in Australia then.

His old man commented the soup was watery - the waiter said that’s the finger bowl for rinsing your fingers

True.

Every town over 1500 people is required by law to have at least one Chinese restaurant.

People think Chinese food was invented in China, but a moment's thought should tell you this makes no sense. Chinese food can't have been invented in China, because they'd just call it "food". It can only be "Chinese food" once it goes somewhere else.

@lowqualityfacts The stuff Australians think of as "Chinese food" is just bad food the Chinese sent there as punishment.
