Idle Movies Thought: I'd trade modern 10 action thrillers for one good spy movie.

@zachvat There are so many Le Carre novels that have not been adapted.

I understand that studios are scared to make "Honourable Schoolboy" because of the China politics, but I still think it would be a banger.

Hell pick up an Eric Ambler or Alan Furst; none on the big screen AFAIK.

I've read all of John le Carré, I think. Even the last short novel published after this death.

Agreed. We need more made into movies.

Thankfully, the BBC original Tinker, Tailor and Smiley's People are still on YouTube, last I checked (and watched). I'm an old Cold War type.

@zachvat

yeah the Alec Guinness stuff is great.

But I think you could completely restart with an update of the Richard Burton "Spy who came in from the cold" and make a whole Le Carre-verse.

No I changed my mind, start with "A Small Town in Germany"

@JamesLonghurst

I'm not opposed to a remake of Cold, but it would be hard to beat the original!

Still, were it to set off a reboot of John le Carré stuff, I'm in!

(I used to live in a really small town in Germany.)
