New York AG rejects Trump $175M bond, setting the stage for a Monday hearing which may result in determination that the bond is without effect and lead to asset seizure.
"The New York attorney general’s office has asked a judge to void the $175 million bond former President Trump secured to put off paying the larger monetary damage award in his civil fraud case."
Even knowing in some detail the extent of the rottenness of Trump's criminal enterprise, it's still surprising to me that him and his band of mobsters keep on trying to reproduce their crooked schemes even at this late stage and with his personal freedom and fortune being on the line.
@mastodonmigration Sooooo surprising that a bond from a corrupt af auto loan shark was rejected. Obviously no one else is going to put up a legitimate bond because trump doesn't have the liquid assets to back it. Let the mar-a-lago yard sale commence.
"...next Monday, opening arguments will begin in Trump's criminal trial AND Judge Engoron will conduct a hearing to decide whether Trump's bond is adequate or if A.G. James can start seizing his New York properties."
"...violated numerous federal laws by pressuring borrowers through the use of illegal debt collection tactics, including using phony caller ID information, falsely threatening to refer borrowers for investigation or criminal prosecution, and illegally disclosing information about debts to borrowers’ employers, friends and family."
"The CFPB ordered the companies to overhaul their debt collection practices, provide restitution to consumers of $44.1 million and pay a civil penalty of $4.25 million."
"Just two years later, these same two Hankey Group companies entered into a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) to pay restitution and civil penalties totaling $760,788 to resolve charges that they violated the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (“SCRA”) by repossessing 70 vehicles owned by members of the armed forces without first obtaining the required court orders."
@mastodonmigration It worked though. It's already bought this much delay, and even this filing is conceding another week's delay! And what's to stop an endless stream of replacement fake bonds, each one, like this one, bringing more weeks of delay? Looks like a winning strategy to me.
Feel your frustration, yet he is not winning. His tactics are marginally effective in delaying his ultimate defeat, but the tide has turned. It's not a quick or decisive as we would like. That's the nature of warfare, and make no mistake, this is a war against a very well funded and sophisticated adversary. Not Trump, per se, but the entire billionaire fueled campaign to remake America into a fascist state. They will not prevail. We, the people, will defend our democracy.
Monday is looking good. Considering all the grief he has given to other people, I would be delighted to see his real estate property seized even as he's shivering in court listening to people describe his crimes. Long overdue.
@mastodonmigration
Sounds like they went to one of those car dealerships that advertises "Bad Credit? No Credit? We Can Work With You" and then you get a high-interest loan that they want paid sooner than you would with a reputable lender.
