@futurebird
I’ve only been called one time. I was kind of bummed out when I was excused because I figured it would be interesting (I grew up in a household that never missed Perry Mason on Sunday night) and as a city employee, it would have been PTO.
I was relieved later when I found out it was a case of two crazy (literally) kids who brutally tortured and killed an older Good Samaritan that had stopped to help them after they experienced car troubles.
@futurebird I remember when I did it the was an old lady who said she couldn't do it because she watched her grandkids. They were like "is this a job, or a full time living situation, or an occasional favor?" She was so pissed they didn't remove her for that
@futurebird the strange thing in NZ is that you actually don't get any questions except if you personally know the people involved (which can happen, since, like, it's NZ). Prosecutor and defense can object to you based on... how you look.
@futurebird it really does! but the jury I was on in NZ was actually quite conscientious. the one that we're talking about is a bit more consequential for civilization though.
@futurebird I didn't want to be on the jury because of the commute but when I heard so many other jurors trying to weasel out of it, I wanted to be on the case. I think they saw that and did not pick me.
