Student debt relief is good for everyone — not just those carrying it.

When Americans aren't buried in debt, they have more $ to contribute to the economy. They're more likely to start a business, buy a house, or start a family. And they're less likely to need gov't assistance.

@rbreich But I'm told that if I got any relief, I'd spend it on drugs or something else. That I won't reinvest in the stock market. that I would use it to either save for a later date or pay down a bill.

@rbreich higher education is far too expensive in America. It used to be more affordable. It is much more affordable in Europe. How are we supposed to maintain a high tech service economy if nobody can afford university?

@rbreich I wonder if it would be effective to label it a grandkid tax? Like, "if your tax dollars go to the economic freedom of your kids who are saddled with so much debt they can't even consider the expense of starting a family, your chances of getting a grandkid before you die goes up!!"
Problematic AF, but it might convince some people.

@rbreich I don’t think the rich people funneling money to politicians really want us normies starting businesses or buying houses.
