Pied-billed grebe in ST Morrison Park in Coralville, Iowa.

Haven't seen a non-mallard/Canada goose waterbird in the pond B4 but I'm sure there's probably been some. Luckily I encountered one once & when this one dived I was like, "That ain't no duck". Stalked it the next day for an hour or so & was finally able to sneak up on it while it dove.

No others. It just hung out w/ the geese/ducks. Such a cutie!

Pied-billed grebes have brown to grey body feathers, a black mask above and below the beak, dark eyes surrounded by a pale grey eyeliner, a silvery-grey, pointed beak that is designed for grabbing fish underwater, a vertical black stripe about halfway down the beak, and instead of webbed feet they have large lobed toes for perambulation.
