"If he [Trump] were any other person, he would have been sentenced to prison many times over with no real hope of release: Sexual assault. Decades of fraud. Attempted extortation of a foreign leader. Stealing classified documents. Flagrant acceptance of what very much looks like bribes. Attempting to overthrow democracy. Inciting a violent riot that got people killed."
I heard that a musicians' union got "blind" auditions, where the judges couldn't see the players. A lot more women played in orchestras after that rule came into place.
What if - hear me out - what if courtrooms did "blind" judging, where the judges / juries couldn't see or hear the accused directly?
Maybe it won't work on "celeb" cases but all the other cases might be helped?
@spaceghoti@CelloMomOnCars Problem is, judges and juries have to evaluate the parties' and witnesses' credibility, which is conveyed largely through mannerisms, expressions, etc.
In that case, if I'm ever a defendant, I'm sunk.
I'm blunt, I don't explain myself well verbally, I don't think well in real time, and my social skills stink.
@CelloMomOnCars@spaceghoti I read a science fiction story with that theme...decades ago. It sounds like something Harlan Ellison or Robert Heinlein would have written.
I think it was a short story that I had to read in a speculative fiction class in undergrad school, which would lean to Ellison or Vonnegut. I had to read from collections of the latter.
