(I think Christian Lore Fans are formed by learning a LOT about Christianity growing up, but never developing the idea that you know the one true way.)
@futurebird i’m pretty sure “jesus survived the crucifixion” was a full-blown heresy from the beginning. back in college i went through a heresy kick and bought a collection of the gnostic gospels. iirc 3rd Timothy goes into this a bit, as well as a few others
@futurebird Yes. Religion, all religions as far as I can tell, are about some guy saying something and proclaiming it to be God's will without any proof at all.
I grew up Presbyterian, and we didn't/don't do excommunication (I don't think? Never came up!) but pretty sure if anyone tried any of that, they'd've gotten the Cary Grant
@futurebird I. What. He died relatively quickly. It’s in the text! It’s possibly important to some folks because when the Romans got tired of waiting for you to die, they broke your legs so you couldn’t force your self up to a position where you could breathe or something. sigh I don’t even believe this stuff anymore, why do I care?
@futurebird like imagine actually being in the centre of hellenistic discussions when madman sit for a while, and come out with "what if reality is the source of original sin" and get so thoroughly persecuted that all we practically know is the fact that Iraneaus talked shit about them as to thoroughly put down the idea.
