Hey #Vamily, GURPS, Rifts, Shadowrun, Star Wars, and other non-D&D friendos:
✋ Raise your hand if you entered the #TTRPG hobby with not D&D.
🎲 What was your first experience? How did you get into the hobby?
🎁 Bonus: Which of you got into LARP before tabletop?
@thoughtpunks I was tabletop first, but for me it was Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy roleplaying game.
It was a mess of a game, chaotic and farcical as we tried to hang onto our Fate Points through the wild swings caused by that questionably tested engine. But it was great fun.
Think I was maybe... 7 or 8 years into the hobby, mostly playing Call of Cthulhu, Dark Heresy and NWoD before I played any iteration of DnD
@thoughtpunks My memory is very hazy, but I think my first intro into RPGs was the Fighting Fantasy books. Not truly RPGs themselves, but I started running a game with multiple players using those rules in a very RPG sort of way.
Then I got introduced to AD&D.
Given I was barely into double digits of age, my memory is very hazy. I remember the game being based on the Death Zone from the Dr Who 20th anniversary special, with some Star Wars thrown in for good measure.
@thoughtpunks My first time playing was AD&D 2e BUT my first exposure to RP was when I traded a friend some comics for some TMNT graphic novels and a copy of TMNT and Other Strangeness from Palladium games. After that, I picked up Ninjas & Superspies and Heroes Unlimited and read them cover-to-cover multiple times way before I ever played any D&D.
