Josh Kovensky asks what white men are complaining about. He's looking at the secret society about which he recently produced a blockbuster report, the Society for American Civic Renewal. It's comprised of powerful white Christian men (heterosexual only) who claim that the power of straight white Christian men in the US is being eroded, and they're mad as hell. This society was founded for them to rule, and they intend to take it back.

@mykl I don't see "religion" as one uniform, singular thing, but as a very diverse thing with many different facets. I'm not inclined to attack and break solidarity with the man religiously committed people I see around me and in our world today who are working against injustice and for progressive goals because of their religious commitments. I'll take Biden's deep Catholic commitments any day of the week over the sham religion Trump exploits with his white Christian nationalist base.
@LaChasseuse Well-stated. I can say the same, even as a white man — but one who also happens to be gay, married to another man, and very much in the sights of white heteronormative patriarchy. As, of course, are women, people of color, and all kinds of other folks….
@LaChasseuse Yes, it's precisely because they are a minority that they are so intent to dominate, to lock in minoritarian control of the majority. The problem is that a rabid minority can wreak great damage to an entire nation in fairly short order, as the Hitler period in Germany showed us. And many Americans are just not awake to the danger — and millions actually want to see the damage done.
@LaChasseuse The Trump movement is definitely driven by men who imagine they are being undermined as dominant. I think a big question that needs to be answered, too, is why so many women are willing to buy into this nonsense and prop up a patriarchy that is harmful to women, too.
@wdlindsy Most white American women see men as a source of income, sometimes prestige. What choice do they have? They get shut out of just about everything else.
Religion encourages this, and these women really work the patriarchal structure, it's kind of a career choice for them. It's different for poor white women, women of colour, women of non-standard sexuality/gender. They are often better off on their own.
@LaChasseuse Yes. We've been conditioned by patriarchy to view things this way — both men and women have long been conditioned to see things this way. And religion absolutely does frequently reinforce the patriarchal conditioning.
