”Students and teachers will be able to speak freely about sexual orientation and gender identity in #Florida classrooms, provided it’s not part of instruction, under a settlement reached Monday between Florida education officials and civil rights attorneys who had challenged a state law which critics dubbed “Don’t Say Gay.” #LGBTQ
@GottaLaff It proves never give up, never stop fighting. Republicans are grasping at the last shreds of an outdated society, we will win this, they will be left behind. It'll take some bumps and bruises but we'll get there.
@GottaLaff Suppose high school students are discussing a book, which is part of instruction. Suppose a student says something anti-gay (say, says that some character seems like a [slur] to him) and the teacher pushes back. Is the teacher now in danger of prosecution, even with this settlement?
@GottaLaff And it's exactly that, that teachers have no idea where the line is, that will cause them to self-censor and avoid supporting LGBT teens under their charge against attack.
