A number of people have asked how they get a link preview to appear when making a post on here. You don't have to do anything special, just include a link in your post!

The preview will appear automatically, but it may take some time. The preview is generated by the server of the person viewing the post, so previews may look different on different servers.

Some websites may not have settings for images on previews, previews for those sites will just be text.

@FediTips Often it seems like the previews do not appear till someone on your server clicks the link to get it cached there.

As far as I know, it's the server of the person viewing it that generates the preview.

So, it may show up on different servers at different times (and possibly in different formats depending on what software the server is running).
