As a long-time gamer, I've always struggled to wrap my head around the role of gods in fantasy settings in which magic exists. Is their power derived from the same forces that govern magic? Are they the authors? Do they wield powers beyond those available to the magically inclined? Tell me friends, how do you handle it? #ttrpg

@SJohnRoss in a recent game, the "Builders" were creation gods-- aloof, uninterested in the machinations of mortalkind. They entrusted elves with the language of magic. The elves were tricked into sharing it with humans, violating their sacred covenant. As punishment, the Builders flooded the world and departed. No gods. The "faithful" pine (in vain) for their return.
