It's always interesting to me to see what people think of as Enterprise™ or Google Scale™

About half the time it seems completely orthogonal to what is actually used in Enterprise™ or at Google Scale™

"We don't need that, it's only useful at Google Scale™" seems to have about a 50/50 chance of actually being something that is related to Google's scale and not just… like a standard "you have a distributed system" requirement or a more general problem.

Then it gets reinvented, because of course

@hrefna it's funny when it's the reverse. Just because you're at Google doesn't mean everything is actually Google scale. Sometimes things are small!

@skorgu Yup, fear my 10s of queries per day, three nines service! Clearly it needs all of the infrastructure!

@hrefna sometimes the most important part of optimization is stopping engineers from optimizing.

Of course we need more nines than queries per day, that's just math.

All these young whippersnappers and their nines! When I was their age, stuff went down all the time, and that's how we liked it! Error pages build character! 😂

@skorgu @hrefna The famous "I don't know how to count that low" symdrome

Or as they said in my introduction session:

"Welcome to Google, where the impossible is merely difficult and the easy is also difficult."
