I get so many replies from people who live outside of the US, from all over the world (as well as right here in Canada from people we engage with face to face) asking, “How did this happen in the US?”
I give them the same response I gave Mr. Laffy when he asked why I wanted to move to Canada:
Trump has the courts. Despite other ways to try to counter, it’s the courts that make this feel so damn insurmountable.
@GottaLaff Is there anything preventing Merrick Garland from prosecuting the case? He's appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate, just like Clarence Thomas.
@GottaLaff I couldn't agree more. I left after the first time he was in the WH cuz I don't need a long explanation. Effe this. I'm too small and weak to survive this or make a difference. I saw myself more effective from the outside.
@GottaLaff ...I wouldn't say 'smart'... lucky to put 2 n 2 together just because all of a sudden I had so many puzzle pieces around me... and my mind just put it together and I freaked... I knew I was going to need time to make it happen and circumstances in my life just aligned. I also come from a family where my grandfather was deported -on foot- to what was at the time Oriental Prussia and the stories I was raised on were enough that I knew what was coming. Dumb luck. You, otoh, were smart.
@GottaLaff this is a long game played by christian white supremacists that gave a show of their hand with the so called “moral majority movement” which was their response to the civil rights movement of the same period. The Heritage Foundation was also started at around the same time, and we know what they are all about.
@GottaLaff
When people ask me, "How could this happen in the USA", I respond 46% of the French just voted for the far-right, 15% of the English voted for Nigel Farage's new party and don't forget Brexit, ....
@GottaLaff I think moving to Canada when you did is a smart move for sound reasons. I suspect many Americans are scrambling to do the same thing. I’m planning to stay and fight because- WTF
@GottaLaff I think you are indeed fighting from where you are - my intention was to give you a compliment. And no, I don’t think you need a bayonet or a musket. The pen is mightier than the sword especially in the current disinformation/propaganda media environment. Your work is critical and I’m glad you feel safer.
@GottaLaff Almost feels like this whole week will be one massive, coordinated effort to demoralize Dem base and suppress vote ("hE aLrEaDy WoN wHy BoThEr")
