Me: Stop treating politics like it was the fucking football, you can't just say "Welp, my team won, all is right in the world!" and call it a day!!!

Me, ten minutes later: Actually, I've seen you lose your shit far more passionately for an ill-advised substitution than anything that Starmer has ever done, this is actually - despite all your posturing - less important to you than football, isn't it?

(I'm talking about UK soccer and UK elections for clarity)

@neonsnake I kinda get it when people are more into sports than politics. At least sometimes with sports somebody wins

@sidereal @neonsnake sports makes people genuinely happy far more than politics ever does

@julieofthespirits @sidereal @neonsnake Can confirm - The Mets or Lewis Hamilton winning always make me feel so much better than any politician winning.

@aoife @julieofthespirits @neonsnake Canyou imagine if politicians reacted to losing elections like teams react to losing cups? Actual different approach to strategy, admitting where things went wrong, making new plans for next time. I would love it if politicians showed the level of strategic initiative and capacity for self criticism that athletes do

@sidereal @aoife @julieofthespirits

Lol, that's fair! I'd never thought of it like that.

Imagine if politicians were scrutinised like team managers by their supporters, you mean?

@neonsnake @sidereal @aoife yeah, people always say "politics is like sports" critically but sports fans will always be like OUR PITCHING IS SHIT if the pitching is in fact shit
