@picard staying at home and working on my crafts!! I got a lot of my materials now and I have so many ideas and I can’t wait to get started, and also, the Silverstone race is on this weekend so that’s unmissable. I may go to the cinema too but there’s nothing on at the minute minus maybe re-runs cause of the strikes last year, but then again, I think they’re also re-running The Mummy which would be great to see on a big screen. We’ll see 😃 how about you?

@k_kwasniewska For me, I've been loving the Euros, and it's quarter finals weekend, looking forward to that! And also been getting back into some coding. I'm still at the "copy the tutorial projects" stage, not actually making anything myself, but likewise overflowing with ideas of things I could try to do with some trial and error so I might give some a go even if just totally basic stuff it'd be good to make something of my own!
@picard I am really enjoying it as of now. I used to make jewellery when I was little - I still have some pieces I made then! - and I used to sew with my mum too cause that was her job before she had us and before "the transformation" happened and her job was no more. I work with digital files a lot and it is so nice to instead make something that exists in a physical space that I can hold - idk, it just feels like a nice break from endless digital processing I do!
@picard and yesss it is the 90s film! They had a whole 90s season at the local cinema here and I went to see The Matrix which I was too young to see on the big screen and it was a lot of fun!! (and I also adore Keanu Reeves and think that back in the day I would have stanned him like I stan Charles Leclerc hahaha)
@picard oh where are the Euros at at the minute? Poland is always bad at them, we get a lot of excellent players who refuse to play as a team & footy isn't my sport, I'm more of a car girly as you know 😂 What programming language? I taught myself bits of coding, cause dad was always like, I'm gonna have an engineer daughter who is doing Serious Stuff, and sometimes I wish I had more motivation to learn more, it would be better for my career than whatever I am attempting to do 😃
@k_kwasniewska Yes I remember you saying you used to be into the crafts and it sounded great that you were getting back into it. And I agree - doing something physical when your work is purely digital can be a really good feeling. Using your hands instead of your eyes to do stuff!
Euros in Germany this time. Poland were actually pretty awful to be honest, not gonna lie 😂 Although they drew with France, so like - not too terrible maybe?
@k_kwasniewska Ahh so now I see it - this is why you are into cars wot go fast, because you're an engineer at heart! Do you ever watch rally or is it F1 all the way? We used to have rally through our town, they'd drive through en route to the stage, and sometimes park up in the local petrol station.
@k_kwasniewska I'm currently looking at Rust. It's interesting but maybe a bit above my level right now as a beginner, but I'm enjoying it so maybe that is all that matters? But I'm thinking, maybe a good newbie level project would be a basic program to get the weather forecast from the internet? Very basic, but doable, I think? Or maybe a basic text-based Wordle clone / quiz game. All beginner stuff without much complexity but I think a good place to start...
@picard Yes! and I also discovered wonderful Blythe dolls, I learned there's a bunch of collectors and people who mod them, sew for them, sculpt, take photos and do so many different art combos and now I am obsessed. There's like a bunch of middle-aged women with children collecting them and I am so excited to be a middle-aged woman in this aspect fr... it's like tabletop game people but for girls (in spirit) and I am also about to make a bunch of nerdy characters out of these dolls 😂
@picard I think I actually wanna display them and just enjoy doing arty stuff again, because I pressured myself and then burned out and maybe there is a better way of doing this, slowly and sustainably. Oh man, that fact about Euros doesn't surprise me, honestly in Poland people get super excited, then the first match happens, then we defend our honour and then we just say it's gonna be better next time instead of just making volleyball our national sport, which we're actually successful at xD

@picard ...techbroery represents these days tbf. My cousin back home really love the rally tho! OMG when I was a kid I used to force my parents to get this PC magazine all the time and one of the projects that would teach you how to code (in Visual Basic 🤦🏻♀️) was a weather app! I decided to make a small app that would use google search to look for things with like an IE browser component and knowing where in the URL to insert the search term 😃 this is making me super nostalgic!
@picard you are also so patient man. When I was a kid who saw HTML/CSS/JS for the first time, and then that continued into adulthood when I had a face-off with something I had to code, I always thought, I wanna make this big thing but I need to work backwards, I think your method of learning is so much better! Good to get the basics right 😃
@k_kwasniewska Honestly that sounds so cool. It is really uplifting to see you talk about how much you're enjoying your dolls. And it's always really cool when people nerd out about the things they love 😀 I agree that it's important to do hobbies in a way that you can stick to them if you enjoy them - burning out and never doing something again is really disappointing.
@k_kwasniewska Yes Poland and England have been about as poor as each other - the only reason we're through is because we were in an easier group. So that is definitely why you've not heard all that on the streets this time 😂 This is only my third tournament since I got back into football during lockdown, and the first one England have been rubbish at, so it's been a learning experience 😂
@k_kwasniewska Also yes re: the magazines! I'm a bit older so ours were all in Basic not VB, but I remember writing everything out from the pages, very nostalgic! People do often say I'm patient so I guess I must be! But I just hate feeling like I didn't learn anything from a project, I'm a strong believer that it's best to do things which are just above your level, and that keeps me from indulging in all the other ideas I've got 😄
@picard exactly that, and I think with photography, I really did this to myself. So I need a break, or another subject! And this is really fun plus knowing there's a community nerding out about those dolls also feels really nice 😃 This is what I'm thinking about football - the last two tournaments were proper IT'S COMING HOME!!!!1!!! and you would just see happy guys everywhere and you're like, eh, nice!
@picard (One of my besties who is into, like, all the sports including boxing and that, would organise fun evenings out to go watch those too so even if I don't really watch football and my sports commentary usually cracks her and her BF up, it was just nice to go out at that time and I figured this time was different 😂)
@picard and I think you're learning a bit from everything you pick up if it's at a challenging level, and just above your level is usually the exact amount that keeps you interested AND learning new stuff. Hopefully, you can make some cool stuff with it!

Exactly! Like, at work, sure, being thrown in the deep end can be the best way to level up, but nobody wants that in hobbies 😄 so just enough challenge so it requires effort but you get the regular good feeling of achieving something too! Thank you ☺️

I think it's just good to have more things to choose from too. So you don't force one hobby if you're not really feeling it - that's always a way to reduce your interest. Our brains love variety.
Yes I remember hearing it's coming home at maximum volume but this time it's more like everyone is ashamed to mention the football, it's really that bad 😂
