a new one for me! did you know wood ducks have an alternate plumage that isn't as fancy as their well known look??

the same pair still fighting. the male has extended his neck further towards the female; she has backed off down the log with one beautiful spread wing.

a wood duck pair in summer 'eclipse' plumage. the male is dark with a bright orange beak and red eye; the female, similarly brown as a mallard female but with some wing iridescence. they are having a little tiff, and both lean forward with beaks open in vicious quacking. the female's wings are partially spread.
