I feel your pain. But I think these five people (and more besides them) need to move.
I block at an individual level a lot of instances because I disagree with their admins. Do I lose the chance to know perfectly OK, even lovely people? Of course I do. Do I think they're in the wrong for "living" there? Same.
It's not that hard, here you can actually vote with your feet on the cheap and with very little disruption to your life.
I don't deny it may be useful up to a point but... can't solve social problems with technology. People have to be aware of their environment. At the lowest level, I check the "moderated servers" list in my instance at least once a month. There are a lot of things like that you can do, and they don't take that much time.
@BeAware valid feeling for sure man; gatekeeper gonna gatekeep but have you ever seen a happy bouncer?
Head up! Let your ADHD be a strength, never know the creativity that might come. You got this!
@BeAware There is a very long list of rules so I guess it could be almost anything.
I'm also seeing a misrepresentation of the law to avoid making a potentially controversial policy decision (if the community finds some kinks to be unpleasant to deal with, can we at least be upfront about that? I don't think anyone expects every small instance to deal in every kind).
@BeAware Absolutely a serious issue with the Fediverse. Admins who defederate too quickly, too often. And people who keep demanding Admins suspend other instances and users.
I get reports all the time that ask me to suspend people because if you twist what they say into a pretzel, you can maybe find something that might be offensive, possibly, maybe, under a special agendized lens if you squint and make a hundred assumptions.
The only thing about being an Admin that I don't like.
@Jerry@BeAware one thing I like about self-hosting: Ain't nobody gonna convince me to ban myself. Also I don't have to be responsible for what other people write
