@GottaLaff It's not just that the EPA can't regulate water - it's that the President can't carry out the law enacted by Congress. He can't do anything without a law - so he will need a series of what will be called Enabling Acts...
@otownKim Our sons went to college here in Canada (they'd already gotten their Masters, but had to go back in order to get a work permit). Why can't she do that? @pixelpusher220
@GottaLaff@argia This is always the wrong answer and the fact that they can't seem to learn the lesson is like Lucy and the football. As if the GOP ever needed a reason for "why", they do what they can get away with.
@GottaLaff Clearly with the latest Supreme Court ruling, Biden should do an Official Act of arresting Trump for Treason and if he resists arrest shoot him and anyone who gets in the way of doing it. Or maybe slightly less violently, do an official act of firing the 6 insurrectionist, treasonous, political operatives on the Supreme Court and replace them with others. Or just add 5 more Supreme Court justices.
@GottaLaff: That is a scary list but unfortunately accurate at the moment.
As disturbing and shocking as these decisions are, we need to remember that historically SCOTUS has been conservative, or even reactionary for much of our history. @Teri_Kanefield covers some of that in this informative post.
It's well worth reading to put SCOTUS's decisions into perspective.
The other thing we cannot forget, hard as it is sometimes, is that the courts cannot solve our political problems. Only we the voters can do that. If enough people want democracy to work, it will survive. That means we all have to keep doing our part to defend it with more democracy. Not less.
You're certainly doing yours. The rest of us have to step up and do ours as well.
** gets off of soap box because it gets crushed under the weight of the moment **
@goodreedAJ@GottaLaff@Teri_Kanefield The VOTERS can fix it? Doing our part? DEMOCRACY? Dude, we're not IN a democracy. There is no representation for the left, only for conservatives and moderates. How, exactly, does voting within our current system actually change anything?
(Obviously, do vote for Biden, though, to at least slow the decline of America into fascism for four more years)
@GottaLaff@scottytrees It simply won’t matter. Every election cycle opens the opportunity for a fully fledged Presidential dictatorship. If the SCOTUS ruling stands democracy in the USA is officially sanctioned as over. Six unelected judges are creating the necessary legal framework out of thin air. Robert’s and this court have been involved in the most insane decisions of my lifetime. If the President doesn’t take action immediately, this is game set match.
@GottaLaff what if one of the justices at the Supreme Court got some toxic substances in his drinking water (you know, because of water pollution...) and died? Just askin' for a friend...
@GottaLaff last checked: EPA mandate - ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION! I thought water was part of environment and part of EPA. A person has autonomy over own body, both men and women (ESPECIALLY during pregnancy). Homeless are that way due to not having own homes, make them have safe place (preferably a job for own home). Student education needs MAJOR reform, starting with loss of debt. Universities also needs to be given changes in ways they perform.
@GottaLaff Biden needs to act quickly - refusing to let a national security threat like Trump get ANY briefings given to most candidates for "P" would be an official act to preserve the Republic. I can think of a whole lot more...Guantanamo still open, right?
@GottaLaff sending seal team 6 after Tump, 3+ Supreme Court justices, and Republican leadership in Congress could bring back the days of the early Reconstruction, when there were no conservatives to stand in the way of progress
@GottaLaff I think that the previous generations had time so solve these problems without blood, but thry didnt do enough and now radical action must be taken to put us back on track. We are on a ticking clock from climate change, people will die, the only question is how many.
