@chgowiz Never played much of that one, but I HEARD it for hours on end, because it stood two cabinets to the right of the Elevator Action machine that owned every quarter I could find. 😅
@chgowiz I started out as an Asteroids junkie, then I had a brief Star Castle phase, then the Pac-Mans, both Mr. and Mrs. and the assorted Kongs Donkey, and Centipede ... then later flirted with dozens of others (Xevious had me for a while, wireframe Star Wars, also-wireframe Red Baron) ... but then Elevator Action just owned my soul for a bit.
@SJohnRoss@chgowiz I have a special fondness for the vector Star Wars and Red Baron. I can still remember that TIE fighters shot fireballs that were worth... 33 points for some annoy-my-autistic-brain reason.
@audreygwinter@chgowiz Ha! And yeah, I just adored those first-person wireframe vibes. Even Battlezone, though it was frustratingly gradual and lacked flight, still fascinated me.
@SJohnRoss@audreygwinter I probably played Battlezone way more than Asteroids, which were my two fav wireframe games. Asteroids would get too overwhelming for me, but Battlezone was manageable.
@chgowiz@SJohnRoss I only ever played Wizard of Wor once, and Bezerk was too hard for me (I had very limited quarter access :/). Eventually, though, Gauntlet was the talker that really took my money (when I finally had money).
@UnlikelyLass@chgowiz Gauntlet hit me a bit later in life, when I started essentially living (literally sleeping overnights) at a game shop and playing RPGs. Our version of getting some fresh air and exercise was walking 50 feet to the convenience store, filling up on soda, and pumping quarters, four players at a time, into the Gauntlet machine. SO MUCH GAUNTLET.
They also had Hang On (I played a bit) and Choplifter (I played that when I was alone).
Wizard of Wor was one of those games I could just zone out to, once I had figured out how the monsters and wizard worked. I could make a quarter last awhile.
@chgowiz@UnlikelyLass I was pretty bad at Gauntlet, and couldn't make a quarter last at ALL ... but it didn't matter because if I had no quarters (often the case) the off-duty marines would slide me a stack, because they had no lives, they slept in the barracks, ate at the mess hall, lived at the game shop, and were VERY serious about always having a full party of 4 players in Gauntlet. So if you were a warm body who knew not to Shoot Food, they'd pay your way 😅
