So many mobilized folks at NY Governor Hochul's Midtown office were enraged by her last minute congestion pricing betrayal.
We then matched on 42nd Street, past Grand Central and one of the "diners" she invoked as reason for reversing her decision.
We ended at Bryant Park, at one of 343 inaccessible subway stations in the NYC subway system, which will now remain inaccessible due to Kathy's defunding the MTA of $15 billion through cancelation of congestion pricing.
@mejs I view this as a temporary pause until the elections, being how unpopular this is for us local folks living on the border line and need to cross it just to leave the city on a weekend. I’ll bet money that it resumes quickly after November elections.
@nycCatHerder I don't know. Nothing about how this went down gives me confidence that there is any chance of saving congestion pricing without serious political and likely judicial mobilization right now.
Even in that best case scenario, this last minute announcement is already wrecking chaos all over the MTA's capital budget and credit rating. By the time this election is over, we may be looking at not just a 2017 style transit crisis but a 70s and 80s like transit budget meltdown.
@nycCatHerder can you explain what you mean by folks living on the border line? Do you live on the border of the Central Business District zone? Not sure I understood what you mean
@mejs@nycCatHerder I live in the South Bronx just over the bridges and we want faster buses and LESS AIR POLLUTION— highest rates of childhood asthma in the city since the streets turn into dysfunctional parking lots for an hour twice a day. This needs to stop!
@futurebird@mejs@nycCatHerder the major deegan needs to be all electric cars. the way it wraps around mott haven means constant air pollution. thanks, robert moses
