Customer service departments who do not teach their phone staff the universal phonetic alphabet and numeral pronunciation are doing a huge disservice to both their staff and the customers being served.

I'm overhearing the most painful call... and it's not with an overseas call center, I'm simply listening to the person next to me on the train try to speak with a Costco Vision employee about lens strength and frame model numbers...

Customer: "I'm looking at Alpha, November, India, Zero, Seven, Kilo, Niner, Sierra"

Employee: "Was that A, O, 1, 3, O, 7, N, Z?"

Customer: "Let's try that again..."
